First off, my bad for coming so late I did not realize you closed at 10. But that didn't have me feeling any less welcome. We had our grade 8 grad here back in like 2005 and I haven't gotten to come back. Reading a couple reviews a long time ago made me hesitant but this place left super warm feelings in me to wanna go back. Fast forward over 20 years.. i didn't tell my kids we were coming because we read some reviews together and they were hesitant but oh my.. how you changed their minds and it felt so good for them to enjoy it. Your host was super sweet, accommodating, the food was chefs kiss. It is definitely a new staple for the kids and thats all I wanted hehe :)

Went there 3 months ago and the food was great they included a small dessert with the adult entrees that was delicious. However I went today and the service had changed quite a bit. Service was very slow and they now have a robot they use for food delivery. Its honestly a lazy upgrade. Less severs compared to a few months back cuz they rather rely on technology that takes people's jobs
Came in to grab takeout. Host was very warm and inviting, lovely. I had already paid online and was just looking to grab and go (running late as I often am). I stood at the empty bar for a few minutes, while multiple staff were not engaging in anything other than conversation with each other or putting on lip balm. I had to ask about my food. Got a look like I had deeply offended by simply asking. Never a good sign. No thank you or warmth from the staff in the restaurant. Host wished me a great day on the way out and I was like damn, bro. You’re doing all the heavy lifting for service in this place, aren’t cha.
Now the food. They packaged the trio of desserts I ordered into one haphazard cramped container. Also, where is the ‘berry’ part of the berry cheesecake? That’s just a sad white circle of no berry. My friend, with food touching and texture issues was incredibly put off by the way her desserts were packaged.
Also, we asked for the pasta al dente. What we got was mush. Now, to be fair, I was 20 minutes later than the pick up time. But that should not cause what should be al dente pasta to collapse into sad little broken mushy noodles.
Overall. This is not the East Side Mario’s of our youth. With delicious mountains of pasta and warm bread and smiling servers and genuine decent service. This is… sadness.

We go to East Side Mario’s often, so I’m honestly really sad to say that this location was just not it 😭 We’ve been to multiple locations in Hamilton and Windsor, and we’ve always had great experiences, so while we were visiting our extended family in Toronto, we thought it would be nice to take everyone here. Unfortunately, this was by far our worst experience.
This review is from Sunday, August 16 around 4 PM. There were 9 of us. When we arrived, the staff member at the door asked if we had a reservation. We said no and asked if we needed one because the restaurant was visibly very quiet. There were literally only two other tables occupied. She responded, “We would prefer if you guys had made a reservation,” and then showed us to our table.
Unfortunately, the table was sticky and didn’t appear to have been properly cleaned. The blinds behind us were missing pieces and were extremely dusty. Overall, the restaurant just looked like it needed some TLC.
Then came the bread. For a table of 9, we were initially given only two pieces of bread while waiting for our meals. When we asked for more, our server handed us a paperbag with bread inside 😭 We literally had to take it out of the bag ourselves.
We obviously didn’t mind taking the bread out ourselves, but after dining at East Side Mario’s so many times, this was just such a strange experience. We know what the service is normally like at other locations, and this simply wasn’t the standard we’re used to. Especially considering that our party of 9 was automatically subject to an 18% gratuity, it was disappointing to experience service like this.
And then, while three of us were still clearly finishing our meals, the server came over and asked, “Should I get the bill now?” We looked at each other and said, “Sure!” 😂
The entire experience just felt incredibly rushed, almost as though they wanted us out of the restaurant as quickly as possible, even though the restaurant was practically empty.
I want to emphasize that we have been to East Side Mario’s many times at other locations and have never experienced anything like this. That’s why this visit was particularly disappointing.
Unfortunately, we won’t be returning to this location. I really hope management takes this feedback seriously because the difference between this location and the other East Side Mario’s locations we’ve visited was huge.
I also want to give a special mention to Rose (I hope I have her name right!) — the tall blonde server who will be working a little less once she starts school in September.
Rose has only served me once, but she has served my 11-year-old son several times and clearly made a big impression on him. When I finally had her as my server, I understood why. Her service was excellent, but what stood out most was her kindness and attentiveness.
She remembered my son, made him feel special, and even when we weren’t in her section, she came over just to say hello and recalled details from previous conversations. That kind of genuine warmth really can’t be taught.
Rose is not just a great server — she’s a truly kind person, and those small gestures meant a lot to my son. ❤️
I hope management knows what a gem they have in Rose, and I wish her all the best as she heads back to school in September!!
