I used DHL Express for an international shipment from Mexico to British Columbia. The shipment was eventually delivered and the contents arrived undamaged, but DHL’s customs/brokerage handling was extremely poor.
My shipment sat in repeated “Clearance Event” / “Shipment on Hold” status for roughly two weeks. DHL repeatedly asked for documents and corrections one at a time instead of clearly explaining all requirements up front. These included importer/authorization issues, invoice format, proforma invoice, make/model details, and country-of-origin clarification. There was no clear case ownership and no coherent communication path.
I eventually had to transfer the shipment to an independent Canadian customs broker at my own expense to get it released. That broker was able to handle the file professionally, which made DHL’s handling look even worse.
After delivery, trying to pursue a refund or service complaint has also been extremely difficult. DHL’s chatbot and support channels repeatedly misclassify the issue as tracking, duties/taxes, or delivery status, even when I clearly state that the shipment has already been delivered and that this is a post-delivery service complaint about brokerage failure.
Based on this experience, I would not recommend DHL Express for anything involving international clearance of valuable personal goods. The shipment arrived, but only after roughly two weeks of avoidable confusion, poor communication, and paying a separate broker to do what DHL should have managed properly.

Just watched a driver proceed straight through an intersection in a right turn only lane and almost side swipe the person going through the straight lane XD
Drivers stop and go and even if they have a buzzer code to get into a building, it's ignored they are more likely to ignore instructions. Obviously drivers don't care about customers and are slackers I've had this trouble with DHL before in January 2026 . They aren't a good delivery choice. You'll get a lot of excuses and asked to pick uo your shipment so be prepared to lose half a day and don't expect cooperation or posted notices on your building entrance with these drivers . Either one has to give them three or more tries or pick up at a distribution center. Anyone else is strongly advised to avoid this business if you are located in a secure residence.
If there is a rating lower than 1, I would give it to this business. I occassionally deal with businesses having this courier service and now I do not wonder why. I have a package out for delivery on Monday, July 27th and made sure there was someone home to receive it. My husband kept all his activities on hold to wait. Unfortunately, at past 2pm, I got an email was put on hold. DHL vehicle issue. Understand sometimes, bad luck happens but husband cannot be home the following day so I instead excused myself from work to be home to wait for the delivery. This time, I got an email at past 5pm that my package was again on-hold i.e., courier came by - there was no answer on consignee address. Am like (huh?) I was home the whole day. No one rang the doorbell. I checked my doors' cameras - no delivery person came by! I immediately contacted DHL and mentioned all these. I actually have a case number 391738373 and provided them all the information they may need. I suspect that the courier went to the wrong address (similar street number)!
I also contacted customer service and quoted them my case number but total waste of time (I felt like they do not believe no one came by yesterday - my pleas went into deaf ears. :-( Instead of rescheduling my delivery today, they rescheduled it tomorrow like another 2 days wait! The waiting game isn't over yet!
Trawling down the other reviews here, I found a review of someone who also had a similar issue i.e., delivery put on hold when no one really came. Another one posted their package was sent to the wrong address i.e., weeks of delay. That being, it means to me that couriers may need more training?
Dear DHL - how many more delays from your ERRORS do we have to deal with for us to stay home and wait for your delivery?! I thought this is DHL express where wait time is lesser because EXPRESS means to me like faster? I am thinking of picking up instead but, I am worried it may further delay the process for me to get my document! One thing for sure, I will surely NOT deal with this courier in the future!!!
UPDATE at 10:51am on July 29th:
I got an email message that my parcel was held on-hold (again) no explanation. Exasperated, I just scheduled a pick up at a service point. Sigh! I am so 'done' dealing with their customer service and their courier processes. I hope though I can pick it up as per notice tomorrow, July 30th!

Very disappointed with my DHL delivery experience. The tracking said my package would arrive around 1pm, and I completely understand that delays can happen. However it has now been over 3 hours past the estimated time with no meaningful update.
What was even more frustrating was watching the live tracking. The driver appeared to be getting closer to my house but then the location kept moving farther and farther away. After that they stayed in the same spot for about 1.5 hours, leaving me with no idea what was happening.
If the delivery is going to be delayed, thats understandable but the tracking should accurately reflect what's happening or customers should at least receive an update. Instead I spent hours waiting because I was expecting the package to arrive at any moment.
This experience was frustrating and a huge waste of time. I hope DHL improves the accuracy of its tracking system and communicates delays more clearly.
