I would give 0 stars if it were an option.
My boyfriend purchased me a headset from Best Buy 2 months ago that went defective 2 days ago & he had not purchased the warranty. After looking online, the manufacturer says any purchases made from a retailer other than themselves is to be taken up with said retailer- & I read online that when it comes to defects etc that sometimes Best Buy may do more or have a geek squad repair done etc.
I walked into this location with my defective headset in a cloth grocery bag, talked to a man at the front of the store who saw the headset (I do not have a paper copy of the receipt on me, just the digital copy in my emails) he tells me I have to pursue the manufacturer for warranty which is fine, & I then confirm that if I want a headset right away I’m going to just have to purchase a new one.
I agree with that & go to the back corner of the store with my younger sister, niece, and nephew, still holding the defective headset in bag. I talk to 2 other employees back there one of which also sees the defective headset & its packaging.
I proceed to decide to purchase the exact same headset because it works for my set up, but got it in white as they did not have the black I originally purchased in stock. I make the purchase & my sister makes a separate purchase, & we walk out with the old headset in the bag with her purchase & she’s holding it, & I’m holding the new headset & it’s receipt.
I’m walking ahead of my sister when she calls out for me to come back & I’m seeing that she’s being harassed by loss prevention- I say harassed because that’s the nice way of putting it- this man was aggressive, accusatory, rude & also just plain not doing his job properly. The main man I am referring to is refusing to look at my receipt, snatched the defective headset out of my sisters hands all the while continuing to accuse her of stealing it. We are both mortified as well as my niece & nephew being scared as they command that we come back in the store while they review security footage. They still have not taken a look at my receipt at this time & will not even allow us to word in. We are left unattended at the front of the store & told a manager would be coming (the manager never comes to talk to us). Meanwhile, we are a spectacle for all of the employees & customers as these men made a huge scene, and we stand there for 20 minutes waiting as I’m not leaving without my property, even if it is defective. I finally decide to involve a Best Buy staff member because it’s clear a manager is not coming. He then goes to the back & talks to these guys, & then comes back & questions us further. I’m so livid I’m fighting tears at this point explaining the situation and showing proof of purchase to the first person who’d give me the time of day to look at it. He goes back and clears things up with these loss prevention security guys, comes back and hands me my headset and essentially says “it’s not Best Buy, it’s them, sorry.” That didn’t really cut it after what we just dealt with and my sister said she expected an apology from the guy who accused her. They weren’t even going to come out after putting us through all of that. He comes out, says “it’s Best Buy, not us” because keep in mind this is a 3rd party security company working here. He did not apologize just spewed some stuff about policy and this and that and I told him how awfully handled that was and how they needed a better system because we did nothing wrong and if anything was wrong it was the store and security’s handling of a customer who was seeing about a return/exchange/warranty etc. It won’t let me include a photo of the card that the second of the two men provided, who himself was the district manager and did absolutely nothing through all of this as he stood right there and watched all of it go down.
I would highly discourage doing anything at this location, whether that be a purchase, an exchange, a refund etc.
