I come to this Subway almost every day on my lunch break, but after this experience I won’t be returning.
I went in the night of July 14th to order a Cold Cut Combo and had a coupon I received in the mail. When I handed it to the cashier, I told her I wanted to use it for my combo because that’s what the coupon said. I didn’t realize “Cold Cut Combo” was the actual name of the sandwich, which made the coupon wording confusing. I stated that it would have been nice to know the coupon didn’t apply before I had already paid.
Unfortunately, there were several communication issues throughout my order. I had to repeat what kind of bread I wanted twice because they weren’t listening, and when I was asked if I wanted cookies or chips, I clearly said chips. At the end of the order, I was asked what kind of cookies I wanted, so I had to repeat that I had asked for chips.
Mistakes happen, and I work in customer service myself, so I completely understand that. What I was not okay with was the way another employee handled the situation. While I was discussing the coupon with the cashier, the man working beside her stepped into the conversation. The cashier was polite and simply seemed confused, but he immediately became defensive, waving his hands and saying, “How would she know what you meant?” several times. I calmly explained that there had already been a few misunderstandings throughout my order, including the confusion over the combo and the mix up between chips and cookies.
At no point did I raise my voice or become rude. I don’t like confrontation, and my face was already red from feeling embarrassed by the misunderstanding. I’m not sure why he felt the need to act that way toward a customer when I was speaking calmly the entire time. Instead of helping resolve the situation, he escalated it by raising his voice and speaking to me disrespectfully. That was completely unnecessary.
Everyone makes mistakes, and I don’t expect perfection. What I do expect is to be treated with respect. Unfortunately, because of the way this situation was handled, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.
