I had an extremely disappointing experience with Geek Squad that left me without a working laptop and no resolution months later.
I brought in my nearly $4,000 ASUS Zenbook because it had stopped connecting to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices. After demonstrating the issue with a brand-new mouse and stylus, I was persuaded to purchase a one-year membership that would cover diagnosis and repairs, excluding parts.
After leaving my laptop with them, I heard nothing for nearly a month. When they finally contacted me, I received conflicting information from three different employees in the span of a few hours. One told me the required parts were no longer available. Another claimed the problem was actually with my mouse and stylus. A third then reversed that statement and returned to the original diagnosis. As an appliance technician myself, I requested the part numbers and was eventually provided with them when I picked up the laptop.
Within minutes of getting home, I located and ordered the supposedly unavailable parts online. After they arrived several weeks later, I took the laptop to another technician for installation. Upon opening the laptop, we discovered multiple large cracks in the touchscreen that were not present before Geek Squad had possession of it. The touchscreen was now completely non-functional.
I immediately reported the damage and was asked to return to the store. After explaining the situation and showing them the damage, I was told they would investigate. Due to the conflicting information, poor communication, and now physical damage to my computer, I requested a full refund. A manager agreed and assured me the refund would be processed within a few business days.
That refund never arrived.
Since then, I have been repeatedly passed between staff members, told to speak with different managers, and informed that only the store manager could address my concerns. Despite months passing, I have been unable to meet with the store manager due to their limited availability during standard business hours, which conflicts with my work schedule.
In the end, Geek Squad failed to repair my laptop, returned it in worse condition than when I dropped it off, provided inconsistent and inaccurate information throughout the process, and failed to deliver the refund I was promised.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Geek Squad. The lack of accountability, communication, and customer service has been extremely frustrating, and I am now left with a nearly $4,000 laptop that is effectively unusable.
