Today I visited a MAC store and unfortunately had a very negative experience with the customer service I received.
From the moment I entered the store and one of the older employees heard my accent, she appeared unwilling to assist me. I explained that I believed the powder and foundation I had purchased were too dark for my complexion. She responded briefly, placed another powder on the counter, and did not offer further assistance. She told me that they don’t apply the make up on customers. I politely asked if she could help me apply the makeup so I could see whether the shade was a better match, but instead she referred me to another employee.
The second employee was assisting another customer at the time. When I asked how long the wait might be, she said she did not know because she was currently with someone else. During this interaction, I noticed her and the other employee exchange looks and roll their eyes, which made me feel very uncomfortable. I felt discouraged because I had only asked a simple question.
I waited patiently for assistance for nearly an hour. During that time, it seemed as though the employee deliberately delayed finishing with the other customer while I continued waiting. When she finally approached me, she appeared defensive from the beginning of the interaction. I remained calm and cooperative despite feeling surprised by her attitude.
She began applying makeup to only half of my face and then left for about 15 minutes before returning. This continued until it was close to closing time. At that point, I was told that I needed to leave the store, even though my makeup was unfinished and uneven. I explained that I would like a moment to finish applying my makeup before leaving, but my request was refused.
Instead, security was called, despite the fact that I had remained calm and had not behaved inappropriately at any point. I felt that the situation was misrepresented and that the employees attempted to make it appear as though I had caused a problem, when in reality I had been patient and respectful the entire time.
This experience was extremely upsetting. I do not understand why I was treated in this manner. I cannot help but question whether my accent or simply asking how long the wait would be contributed to the way I was treated.
Overall, I feel that I was treated unfairly and unprofessionally. I hope this matter can be reviewed so that no other customer has a similar experience.
