I went in to get a shade match since I wanted to purchase a foundation. During the consultation, the employee repeatedly commented on how "yellow" my current foundation looked and kept saying it didn't match my skin tone. It wasn't so much what she said, but the way she said it that came across as rude and unprofessional, especially from someone working in customer service and the beauty industry as well.
I honestly felt like leaving the store at that point, but I decided to continue with the shade match. Ironically, the shade she recommended looked identical to the foundation I was already wearing, so there was no noticeable difference.
It almost felt like the approach was to point out customer's makeup to encourage a purchase, but it was handled in a way that made me feel uncomfortable rather than helped.
The employee took all of my information at checkout, but the discount for first purchase for new customer thing was never applied as well.
As someone who also works in the beauty industry, I believe it's important to make customers feel comfortable and confident. Everyone has their own makeup style and preferences, and the role of a beauty advisor should be to offer guidance RESPECTFULLY, not make customers feel criticized. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling disappointed and will shop online from now on.
