I was assisted by Katie, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing from the start. She did not greet me or make me feel welcome and seemed irritated and bothered before our interaction even began.
While I was ordering, a young boy came in and asked for a cup of water. Katie told him, “Sorry, we don’t do that here, only for paying customers.” Feeling bad for the child, especially since it was over 80 degrees outside, I offered to buy him a bottle of water.
I then asked Katie if I could have a cup of water since I was a paying customer. She again told me that they “don’t do that here.” I pointed out that she had just said paying customers could receive water, but she continued to refuse. When I tried to understand the policy, she became increasingly frustrated.
My intention was simply to help a child get some water on a hot day. Instead, the interaction became unnecessarily difficult and unpleasant. As someone who worked as a manager for over three years, I would never have treated a customer this way, especially over something as basic as water.
I hope management addresses this situation and provides additional customer service training. The experience left a very negative impression.
