I’ve had consistently good experiences at this UPS Store in the past, which is why this visit stood out so much. Normally, the staff are friendly, efficient, and proactive. They’re quick to recommend the right box for a shipment, and if customers come in with Amazon returns, they’re often invited to the counter rather than being left waiting for the self-service kiosks.
Unfortunately, my experience today with Aldwin Torres was very different.
My wife and I had quite a few Amazon returns, so we used the self-service kiosks. Since we had a lot to process, we were there for a while. During that time, several other customers came in with Amazon returns, and Aldwin directed every one of them to the kiosks instead of helping them at the counter. As a result, they ended up waiting behind us. I felt bad enough that I stepped away from my kiosk to let other customers go ahead of me, even though there was an associate available who could have helped them directly.
Later, we accidentally mixed up some of our return labels between bags. One label caused the kiosk to display a message telling us to see an associate. When we asked Aldwin for help, the interaction was frustrating and confusing. I explained that we had misplaced the printed label and asked if he could help us reprint it. Instead of answering the question, he repeatedly told us that the label had already been printed and that we needed to find it. I had to explain multiple times that we had the item—we were missing the label. Rather than helping us resolve the issue, he simply sent us back to the kiosk. We eventually figured it out ourselves.
At the end of our visit, one return required assistance at the counter. We needed to package two pairs of shoes, and I asked whether one of our existing Amazon boxes was an appropriate size. His response was simply, “That’s up to you. It’s your stuff.” I asked again because I was looking for guidance, and didn’t know whether Amazon would accept the box we had. His response was the same. Only after I expressed that I didn’t understand did he explain that he couldn’t recommend a box because of liability concerns. That explanation would have been perfectly reasonable if it had been given from the start. Instead, the conversation felt dismissive and unhelpful. Ironically, another customer in line ended up offering me a smaller box.
What made this experience especially disappointing is that it doesn’t reflect what I’ve come to expect from this location. Every other employee I’ve interacted with here has been willing to answer questions, recommend appropriate packaging, and make the return process as easy as possible. I hope this was just an isolated experience, because this store has otherwise earned my trust over the years.
