  Onion shortage 2026? I’ve been ordering the same basic sub for years: Spicy Italian with lettuce, jalapeños, olives, and extra onions. During a recent visit, the location appeared unable or unwilling to accommodate a request for extra onions, and offering to pay an additional fee did not seem to be an option either. Given that I routinely decline most other standard toppings and vegetables, the experience gave the impression of an unusually rigid enforcement of portion limits. From a customer perspective, it felt like paying full price for less flexibility. A nickel-and-diming approach that yields less value for the consumer.
