I love Subway and your products. I stuck with the brand through the Jared debacle and even the 11-inch bread controversy. But unfortunately, I recently had a bad experience.
To begin our experience, we were not properly greeted nor made to feel welcome. Instead the employee informed us that he only has a few loafs of bread left of two types because they are about to close. My fiance had a wrap and I went with a six inch Italian herbs and cheese.
I could handle the issue about the bread even though the store still had 45 min until officially closing. But then the employee continued to prepare our items as if it was a bother. It was definitely noted that he was in a ready to close mood. We would've left but we were so hungry and ready to eat.
When we were to process payment, my fiance paid with the debit card and forgot to present the gift card that was in her hand. I explained to the employee that we need to void the transaction so we can pay with the gift card. The employee explained, "I don't know how to do that." I asked to speak with a manager and he said, "I'm the only one here."
At this point I felt bad for the young man. I realized this franchise must have systemic issues and/or poor management to leave an inadequately trained employee to run a store alone.
I asked him, "Is there someone you can call?" and he got someone on the phone. I'm not sure if this was a general manager or franchise owner or other manager but I heard the man on the other end of the phone explaining that the present employee doesn't have authorization to void a transaction so then the present employee would need to re-ring and recharge the order and the original transaction would later be voided.
My confidence in this establishment was exhausted by this point so we decided to leave the transaction as it is.
I spoke with the gentleman on the phone and let him know that it's terrible to leave this person alone to run the store and asked why are they not offering full service 45 min before close. When I told him I would be contacting corporate office about my experience he said something about locations being franchises as if he didn't care.
At the end of it all, we also didn't receive a receipt so my fiance couldn't even get points on Fetch
I think I'll be eating less Subway because this is the location closest to my apartment and I don't want to return for this kind of service.
