Deceptive clerk. I did not buy any accessories, but several appeared on the receipt. When I questioned it, she said their system allows them to swap activation fees for accessories (which are more expensive) and not actually give the accessories to the customer.
When I contacted Cricket support, they said their system does not allow anything like this. I went back to the store, and the clerk said they do not work for Cricket and have their own practices. Similarly, I explicitly said I did not want any protection plan, but it was added to my bill anyway. I was also told by the clerk that “the deal is $49.99 for an iPhone, I lowered it for you, so these ‘invisible accessories’ were added.” In reality, the $49.99 price applies if you do not port in a number. Since I ported in my number, the deal was already the lower price, according to their own explanation and the receipt.
I do not know whether this clerk was scamming me individually, whether this is a common practice at this authorized dealer (Bueno Communications LLC), or whether this practice is endorsed by Cricket.
I have reported this practice to Cricket corporate and to the FCC.
