Five stars isn't enough for Keith at the FedEx Office on S Western St in Amarillo.
I was in town running a multi-day training for my company — new city, tight schedule, and materials I was finishing the night before each session. That made me the guy waiting at the front door at 8:00am sharp, needing to print facilitator guides and workbooks and be back in my classroom by 8:30.
Day one: Keith opened the door and greeted me with a genuine, warm welcome. When I ran into trouble at the self-service printer, he jumped right in and got me squared away, and he was happy doing it the whole time. I grabbed my materials and made it to class just in time.
Day two: same routine. Materials made the night before, me at the door right before open, and the same happy Keith welcoming me back. I must have been doing something wrong because I hit the same printer issues, and once again Keith stepped in without a hint of impatience and got me back on the road. Made it to class right on time.
But here's the reason I'm writing this review, which is something I almost never do. That same evening, I was working at a nearby coffee shop when I looked up the store hours: closing at 7:00pm. My clock said 6:50, and my files weren't even done rendering. I absolutely hate being the last-minute customer, but I grabbed my laptop, rushed over, and walked through the door at 6:56. And there was Keith, ELEVEN HOURS after he'd opened the door for me that morning, welcoming me back with the same smile. "Keith! Why are you still here??" They were short-handed, he told me, but all was good. He'd been through it before. When I apologized and offered to just come back in the morning, he wouldn't hear of it: "Please don't do that, just finish it now, no rush, we've got closing duties anyway." And he genuinely meant it, which let me breathe a huge sigh of relief. I finished what I came in for, and Keith helped me out, once again, with a smile.
Working open to close, short-staffed, and still treating a frazzled last-minute customer like the first customer of the morning? That is rare. FedEx, if anyone important is reading this: Keith is a top-tier employee and deserves to be recognized. I'll be coming back to Amarillo regularly, and I will always make a point to stop in and see Keith.
