  BAIT AND SWITCHED LIED TO SCAMMED WARNING TO CONSUMERS- DO NOT PURCHASE INSURANCE FROM DIRECT AUTO INSURANCE!! Very disappointed with Direct Auto Insurance. Started out by searching the internet for better rates on PLPD Auto insurance. Found Direct Auto Insurance and after filling out the quote forms online was quoted a great price compared to what I had previously paid through another insurance company- Cure Auto Insurance. My quote was for $84 from Direct Auto Insurance. For the lowest grade of insurance on a late model vehicle with security features, offsite garage parking in a "safe suburban location" and provided proof of current full Healthcare Insurance. Im 47yrs old with a perfect driving record, no points no accidents, no dui- Was instructed by the Direct Auto Insurance to call and finalize the policy. After speaking with the representative and giving all my information and answering all the questions again I'm quoted $189 to start the policy, which was much more than the quote from the website on the internet. The representative assured me that they had the "best rates" and that it was just $189 to start the policy but that the policy would be cheaper month to month if I agreed to a year instead of 6 months. Everything had to be done online, as there would be no paper billing. I had to agree to automatic payments from a Debit Card Account and a "Drive Smart" app that monitors my driving habits, which I promptly installed onto my Samsung S23 and activated. Once I started driving my vehicle the Drive Smart app notified me that it was implemented and actively recording my driving habits. Once the policy is started I receive an email stating the policy would be going up from $189 to $215 the very next month. The following month I received an email stating the payment was going up from $215 to $249. No tickets, clean driving record, no DUI but the policy kept skyrocketing every single month. Finally very frustrated with being lied to and scammed- I canceled the policy three days before the end of my 2nd month of coverage. I receive an email stating that I now owed $59 due to a last second increase in my policy due to a lack of data from their "Drive Smart" app, that had been running the entirety of my time insured by Direct Auto Insurance. Representative stated that discount was canceled due to lack of data from their app- the app that had confirmed to me it was actively gathering data from my driving habits. I go around in circles with the foreign phone representative from a call center in India until she gets me on the phone with an American Escalation Department representative that would not assist me with my genuine grievance over not only being bait and switched from the website's quote for coverage to the actual price from the telephone insurance agent, and outright lied to about pricing, but also steady increases to the price of my policy for issues on the company's end due to their software of their app- that confirmed on my end it was gathering data directly from my driving habits. Im going to implore that anyone reading this review not purchase insurance from Direct Auto Insurance. They are crooks and con artists and they feel invincible from any recourse on the consumer's end. I've written letters and submitted evidence of my experience with Direct Auto Insurance to the Better Business Bureau and the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services. Things are tough enough for honest Americans without getting scammed by a product they are forced to purchase to drive legally.
