I decided to get some cookies since they have a 6-count box deal. It should've been a quick stop in and out of the store, but the three workers were struggling.
I started seeing this new employee here a few weeks ago. Looks Native or maybe Mexican/Hispanic with long dark hair and glasses, and has a completely blank expression most of the time. At my prior jobs, you learn the register pretty quickly, like a few days at the most. Greet the customer, ring in the items, handle transaction and give customer a warm farewell. Simple. This girl couldn't ring things up without having one of the other two workers come over and basically alert her to the fact that hey, there's a customer waiting RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER and then tell her every single item at an excruciatingly slow pace, watch as she slowly found it on the screen, as well as ask us customers all the questions she should've been doing.
The guy was having to FULLY stop making orders to watch over her shoulder and repeat multiple times what people had, whilst another worker was trying to keep the line moving. But you can't really have a line move when the person ringing things up is this slow. Like the guy would tell the new girl exactly what subs there were, and each time she'd just slowly move her hand over the screen. And that was just for ONE SUB. She wasn't paying attention to anything beyond the first item the guy said. And each time, she kept turning away to look out the window and ignore the next customer waiting in line unless the guy stayed by her.
Anyways, I finally reach her. I asked for seven cookies. The 6-box deal plus one extra. Should've been about $6. She tried to charge me for seven INDIVIDUAL cookies for nearly $10! She didn't know their own menu!!! The guy luckily was still behind her, so it was corrected. But while she was putting my cookies in the box, they got jumbled where they weren't fitting right. She chose to put her bare hands in the box and grab the cookies before I could stop her!! I used to work in food service. You never touch food without gloves on or using some kind of utensil (she had tongs! use those!). It was more gross since every time she turned to look out the window she was either putting her face in her hand or wiping at her nose.
Honestly, this was one of the worst interactions I've had here. I've been coming here for years, and have seen new employees be brought in. None have been as painful as interacting with this one was. I can't even imagine being the other staff members that were having to pick up her slack and do her job for her. Hopefully management here either reprimands/retrains this employee on basic customer service/conduct and food safety, or she is let go.
