This hotel is far from clean, far from quiet, and the place is super run down.

The biggest issue isn’t that the property is old. Older hotels can still be clean, safe and well maintained. My concern is that many of the same problems I experienced last year are still present today, and in some cases the hotel seems to have gotten worse instead of better. My biggest concern is safety. The exterior security doors are not secure. Last year the glass in Building 3’s entrance door was shattered. When we returned this year, it was still shattered. Another glass door leading from the pool to the courtyard was also shattered. The doors that are supposed to require a key card either didn’t latch properly or the card readers weren’t working. Fire doors were also propped open. These are not minor cosmetic issues, they’re security and safety concerns. When we arrived around 9:45 p.m., a man playing a guitar started walking toward us as we headed to the lobby. We ignored him and hurried inside, but he picked up his pace and continued toward us. It was an uncomfortable situation, made worse knowing the “secured” entrances to the hotel weren’t actually secure. Walking into Building door 2, the first thing you notice is the overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke and marijuana. The entryway had garbage, leaves, a used Q-tip and white powder on the floor. Near Building 3 by the ice and vending machines, the smell of poop was so bad my son almost got sick trying to get something to eat. Cleanliness throughout the property was disappointing. The carpets in the hallways, common areas and our room were heavily stained, including a bright red stain in our room. The furniture was stained, the desk chair was peeling badly, wallpaper was peeling in several areas, and the mattresses had visible yellow staining. The bathroom near the lobby had such a strong odor that it smelled like they were trying to cover sewage with air freshener. Even the upholstered chair in that bathroom was heavily stained. Our room had several maintenance issues as well. The door lock was difficult to use and required repeatedly inserting the key card and jiggling the handle before it would unlock. The lights flickered and took so long to come on that we initially thought they weren’t working. The television constantly lagged and froze. Housekeeping never came during our stay. There were three people in our room, but we were only provided two towels with no replenishment. Many of the amenities advertised were unavailable. The hot tub was out of order. The water fountains near the lobby were out of order. There were “Out of Order” signs throughout the property. After returning home, I looked through recent reviews and found guests mentioning these same broken amenities months ago, which suggests these aren’t temporary issues but ongoing maintenance problems. Last August we stayed in Room #, where the room door was damaged and would not lock properly. Months later, I found another guest review describing that same room with many of the same problems. That was disappointing to see because it suggests repairs were not made in a timely manner. To be fair, the front desk staff and breakfast staff were friendly, and breakfast had a decent variety of options. The employees we interacted with were pleasant. I stayed at this hotel as a child, and I’m now 42 years old. It has good bones and could be a great property again with significant investment. Unfortunately, it currently feels like years of deferred maintenance have caught up with it. Instead of fixing problems, it often appears they’re simply painted over or patched. As a travel advisor, I stay in hotels regularly. I don’t expect perfection, but I do expect a clean, safe property where advertised amenities work and guests feel secure. Unfortunately, that wasn’t our experience here. Until major improvements are made, I can’t recommend this property, especially for families. I sincerely hope ownership invests in bringing it back because it has a lot of potential, but in its current condition, we won’t be returning.

This is one of the worse hotels I have ever stayed at. The room smelled like mildew so bad my whole family got sick after staying there. The carpet was damp for all 3 days we stayed.

My only complaint is that my neighbor was up at 2:00 a.m. and had the television blaring super loud for about two and a half hours which was the whole point of my getting a room so I would have a good night's sleep for my long 12 hr drive. I thought it was very expensive but everything is these days I guess. $188 for just myself plus tax of course. Best Western has the best pillows and the best beds in my opinion. The room had a coffee pot, blow dryer, refrigerator and microwave. This location also had a swimming pool; too bad I couldn't have taken advantage of that! Hot breakfast what's available and the scrambled eggs were perfection!
