  Yesterday I found myself in a bit of a pinch. I needed a battery for my pump to make an emergency repair. I walked into the Advance Auto Parts on Atwood Avenue and asked for the cheapest battery they had. I even asked if they had an old used one that was headed for the trash. I was more than willing to buy a beat up battery just to get me through the day. Roland offered me a second hand battery that was on sale. When I asked how much I owed him, he simply said, "Don't worry about it. Just bring it back when you're done." I offered to pay. I offered to leave a credit card. He just smiled and said, "You're all set." For the first time in a very long time, I felt a genuine sense of community. It's something I think we've been missing more and more. That simple act of kindness reminded me that there are still people who lead with trust instead of transactions. Before I even left the parking lot, I made a promise to myself - I'll never buy parts for any of my vehicles anywhere else. I don't care if this Advance store is out of the way. They've earned a customer for life. I went back today to return the battery. Roland came out of his desk, shook my hand, and asked if everything worked out. What an incredible person. Roland, I'll be stopping by soon with a Box of Joe for the crew. It'll probably cost me about as much as the battery would have, but that's not the point. It's the principle. Thank you for being the kind of person who makes a community stronger. We need more people like you.

  Stopped in for windshield wipers. Roland was very attentive and immediately took care of me. He also went out and put them on for me. It was nice to not fell like I was getting taken advantage of as a woman. I can assure you I will be returning and more importantly tell my family and friends to go see Roland directly.
