  I was very disappointed with my recent stay at the Best Western in State College. I've stayed in many hotels over the years, and I have never experienced such poor sound insulation between floors. At approximately 11 p.m., I was awakened by loud footsteps, banging, and movement coming from the floor above. The noise continued throughout the night, until approximately 2 a.m., and began again early in the morning. This was significant enough to disrupt our sleep and led me to believe that someone was moving around upstairs during those hours. When I contacted the front desk, I explained that I didn't necessarily believe the guests upstairs were being inconsiderate, but rather that the hotel appeared to have a serious sound insulation issue. I specifically asked about moving to another room, but that request was not addressed. Instead, I was told that the front desk would contact the guests upstairs. The employee also stated that because the hotel has multiple floors, we were going to hear footsteps. I found that response dismissive of a legitimate concern. I requested a rate adjustment and was told there was no manager on duty. I understand that some noise is unavoidable in a hotel. However, guests should reasonably expect to be able to sleep without being awakened by ordinary movement in the rooms above them, particularly throughout the night and again early in the morning. What disappointed me most was the lack of effort to find a solution.
