We were traveling and stopped at this Subway to pick up sandwiches, hoping to get in and out quickly. The employee preparing our order appeared to be new and was taking extra time, which I completely understand as part of the learning process.
I noticed another employee standing nearby using her phone, so I politely asked if she could help prepare the sandwiches. Instead of assisting, she became upset, raised her voice, and told me that the new employee was learning and that this was part of her training experience.
I responded that there was no need to speak to me in that manner. At that point, a third employee joined the conversation and accused me of being disrespectful to the trainee. I was surprised by this because I had not said anything negative or disrespectful to the new employee at any time. My request was directed only to the employee who was available.
Neither of the two employees acknowledged the situation or apologized for the way they spoke to me. Instead, they both walked away, leaving the trainee to continue handling the orders on her own.
I appreciate that new employees need time and patience to learn, and I have no issue with that. My concern is with the unprofessional way my polite request was handled and the lack of courtesy shown during the interaction.
