Last year, I purchased hardwear earrings& hardwear necklace(for my mom) here. My mom loved earrings so we drove from WA again to buy the same pair. Our previous sales advisor, Megan, was unavailable, so Kenneth helped us instead.
The pair we purchased was the last one in stock, but one earring didn’t make the normal “click” when it locked. My mom noticed it immediately, and we asked Kenneth about it. He assured us nothing was wrong and explained that because the earrings are handmade, each are different. I think he also mentioned over time it will get better because it’s so new lol We trusted his expertise and purchased them.
Less than six months later, that same earring fell out of my mom’s ear and was run over by a car. I took it to Bellevue store & they confirmed that the earring should click when it locks. If it doesn’t, there is a problem with the locking mechanism—which explained why it fell out. Had we been told the truth at the time of purchase, we simply would have ordered another pair. This entire situation could have been avoided.
Megan booked me an appointment to Bellevue store & they sent the earring to Portland for evaluation and told me if it can’t get fixed I would need to pay almost $2000 for replacement. I contacted Megan on 6/16, explained everything, and never received an apology. After calling & telling me she was going on vacation, I never heard from her again. I was told to call the store for updates. The only messages I’d ever consistently received from her before were invitations(to come shop.)
Communication throughout this process was extremely disappointing. I was repeatedly told someone would call me with updates, but no one did. I had to continuously call the store myself(prob about 10 times) I eventually asked to speak with the manager because I was so frustrated. Even then, there was no apology. I had to ask him to escalate the issue, even though this started because an employee assured us a defective earring was “normal.”
When the manager called to tell me a complimentary replacement had been approved, he said he was surprised it was authorized. That was alarming because it suggested I could have been expected to pay nearly $2,000 for a defective item that never should have been sold in the first place. Do they do this to other customers too ? So be careful. Although I appreciate the replacement, the lack of accountability, communication, and even a simple apology left a lasting impression. I wasn’t even notified when the replacement was ready—I had to find out myself and call to customer service confirm where to pick it up. I shouldn’t be begging for help when they lied to me for sales.
Mistakes happen. What matters is how a company responds. If someone had simply taken ownership, communicated proactively, and apologized, I wouldn’t be writing this review. Instead, I was left feeling dismissed and forced to fight for a resolution after spending tens of thousands of dollars with this store. They had no problem reaching out to me to make me come in to spend money, but when accountability&communication were required, I had to chase every update myself like it was my fault. I’m very disappointed by lack of professionalism and communication. It definitely felt like “we got your money. Not our problem anymore”.
