I absolutely have to recognize the incredible employee who helped me today....and I can't believe I am saying this, but I've forgotten her name (I even asked her for her name too!) but brain has been absolutely fried after the afternoon I've had. Long story short: I was on my lunch break picking up Burger Week flyers that my boss at a local food truck needed for Portland Mercury’s Burger Week. What should have been a quick errand had already turned into a nightmare. There is currently a road closure near my office job during the week, so it took me almost an HOUR just to get from near Bridgeport Village to FedEx. Then, because apparently the universe wasn’t finished with me yet, there was ANOTHER road closure/construction near this FedEx location. When I tried to pull into the business park, a man was standing there, yelling at everyone attempting to turn left that the parking lot was full and was directing cars away. At that point, I was stuck in completely standstill traffic with a long line of cars ahead of me and no idea how I was going to pick up my order and get back to work. I called FedEx, and managed to eventually get through to an actual person and the same sweet employee who had printed my documents earlier answered the phone. She apologized for the parking situation even tho it wasn't her fault and simply asked me where I was and what kind of car I was driving. And then—without me even asking her to—she grabbed my order, WALKED OUT OF THE BUSINESS PARK, WALKED DOWN THE ROAD in the August heat, found my car sitting in traffic, and HAND-DELIVERED MY ORDER TO ME THROUGH MY CAR WINDOW.
WHO DOES THAT?!?!
I was honestly stunned. I only had $2 cash on me, and I wish I’d had so much more to give her because she genuinely saved the day for me. After spending an hour fighting road closures and traffic where everyone on the road is already irritated, that small act of kindness felt enormous.
She could have easily said, “Sorry, there’s nothing we can do.” Instead, she saw someone in a bind and went completely above and beyond to help.
To the management at the FedEx Office on Centerpointe Drive: PLEASE figure out which employee this was and recognize her for this. Employees like her are the reason people come back to a business. You have an absolute gem working for you.
And to the wonderful woman who saved the day: You probably thought you were just bringing someone their print order, but you have no idea how much that gesture meant to me. You took an incredibly frustrating afternoon and turned it into a reminder that there are still really kind people in the world.
Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity.❤️
PS. I truly apologize that I forgot your name. I promise it was not intentional.. (I'm not exactly firing on all cylinders today). lol
