  They’re supposed to be the experts, but they apparently don’t know the rules and provide no guidance. I was charged $85 to send 2 documents. On arrival in Turkey, the recipient was told he owed duties of $1000 USD. For a $10 valued package. I called customer service 3x and also visited the office I shipped from. Each representative said no duties were due and the recipient shouldn’t pay under any circumstances. The DHL office in Turkey, demanding the $1000, sent the package back to me. I was never told there would be customs of $1000 due on pick up. I wouldn’t have bothered shipping it. I followed the instructions of the DHL reps who each assured me no duties were due. I filed a claim to get my $85 back since DHL failed somewhere. Either in how they sent the package or their employees understanding of customs and duties and not telling me what would be due. Or the Turkey office was running a scam. Not sure which it is, but regardless I’m out $85 and the package is back with me as they denied the claim, saying it was MY fault I didn’t know what duties would be due. That’s what they advertise they do for me! Ridiculous. Don’t trust DHL! They claim to be the international experts, but they obviously are not and they don’t stand behind their work. You can’t trust them. Go someplace else. I will never use them or recommend them again and will tell anyone who asks me, to use another competing service.
