I had a disappointing experience at the Subway inside Town Pump in Butte, MT. After placing my order, I witnessed an interaction between an employee and another customer that was concerning.
The customer, who appeared to have a language barrier, was trying to order a protein wrap. Instead of being patient or helpful, the employee (a blonde woman with tattoos) spoke to him in a frustrated and dismissive tone, repeatedly asking if he had ordered it before and telling him no changes could be made. When he tried to clarify his request, she snapped at him rather than taking a moment to explain or assist.
I asked why modifications weren’t allowed, as it didn’t appear to be a pre-made item, and she responded rudely, saying it was “because of cost,” without any further explanation.
When I went to pay, the interaction didn’t improve. I asked for my receipt, and she tossed it on the counter instead of handing it to me. I said “thank you,” and received a curt “yup” in return.
Customer service should include basic courtesy and patience, especially when someone may be struggling to communicate. Unfortunately, this experience felt unwelcoming and unprofessional. I hope management addresses this, as it reflects poorly on the business.
