I ordered an expensive piece of equipment for overnight delivery and took time off work to make sure I was home to receive it, especially since a signature was required. My FedEx delivery window kept getting pushed back from an early morning slot, to a late afternoon slot, to “by 8 p.m.” I can’t tell you how many times I checked the delivery status and looked out my window because I was so worried about missing the delivery. So when I saw that my delivery status had been updated from Friday to Monday, especially given it was already on a truck out for delivery, I think I felt a brain cell pop from frustration.
I tried calling FedEx to see if I could switch from delivery to pickup at one of their locations, but the automated phone tree is a nightmare, and I was hung up on three times. I went online to see if I could find suggestions for getting through to a human, and the majority of the websites I looked at described similar negative experiences, with no luck reaching a representative.
This is an incredibly frustrating situation for a variety of reasons: paying extra for overnight shipping that ended up being delayed by three days (if it doesn’t end up being longer), taking time off work to wait for the package, spending the entire day anxious about missing the driver, watching the delivery window slowly get pushed back, trying to navigate a phone tree that seems determined to hang up on you, and now needing to take another day off to wait for a package that still might not show up. I’d give zero stars if I could and send them a bill for the two days I’ve had to take off work.
