1 star — Disgusting food, fraudulent refund denial, and a staff member who admitted she could refund me and chose not to
I ordered a 6-inch turkey sandwich online, got home, and opened it to find almost grey looking, slimy meat that was clearly days old. Beyond the spoiled protein, nothing about this sandwich was right — the bread was hollow and flat, and every single vegetable was also on the verge of being bad and additionally had been run through the toaster on what was supposed to be a cold sandwich.
I returned to the store with the sandwich completely untouched and very politely asked for a refund. What followed was the most disgusting and unprofessional experience I’ve ever had at any business. The employee who made my sandwich suddenly couldn’t communicate with me, and another staff member stepped in and cycled through a rotating list of excuses. First there was nothing wrong with the sandwich. Then they “can’t refund online orders” — which I not only know is a lie because I worked at subway. But their own policy on their website states that online order refunds must be handled at the store level since franchises operate independently.
When that excuse didn’t hold up, the final reason became that I had said one curse word out of frustration after being argued with for an extended period of time. LET ME BE CLEAR: none of this is relevant. A refund is not contingent on the customer’s tone, the staff’s opinion of the food, or how pleasant the interaction feels for the person behind the counter. I returned shitty food that I never ate. That’s it. The moment she cited one word as her reason for denying me, she confirmed she had the ability to issue the refund the entire time and was choosing not to out of spite.
The situation escalated to the point that I actually had to contact the police, and even they acknowledged this was wrong and that her behavior was completely unreasonable.
