I have been a customer at this location since 2021- I moved into a rental and because the mail was difficult to receive at times, I opened a PO Box at this location because it was close to my job, which is mostly remote, in office on occasion and travel out of state from time to time as well. I had not started having problems with the store working with me and waiting on my payment if I were out of town etc. until the last year and a half or so. Things hit the fan for me a few months ago- I have been so busy that I have not had time to take all the needed steps on this situation. On May 15 before 6pm, between 5:15 -5:45, my daughter, who is a minor, went into the UPS store to retrieve a package that she had ordered for a friends graduation party- my bill came due on the 13th- when my daughter went to get the package by turning in the slip- the employee helping her in front of another employee - asked if it was my daughters box or her moms- my daughter said it was her moms- at that point the employee should have simply said, ask your mother to stop back in or call us- but the employee went further and told my daughter to “tell your Mom she needs to come pay her bill or we won’t deliver her mail anymore “ my daughter came back to the vehicle- upset and told me what was said to her. ..she told me one of the workers- so - knowing that divulging any information about another person’s bill, more less a minor regardless of what it is - is a violation of the FDCPA- and consumer rights and has a number of legal implications.
I went back inside the store, there were people in there so I got in line- I wasn’t sure which individual had spoken to my daughter so I approached the first person who became available, which was a young black gentleman- I advised him of my PO Box, I asked him if he was the person who had spoken to my daughter- he never gave an answer to me but - started asking when it came due and advised not sure what was said to my daughter about it, but she’s a teenager- and I advised that I would be back on Wednesday(which I did) and asked if that would be ok- he went over the account saying it was last paid in February(for 3month) and came due on the 13th again, less than two days prior-and on top of that, there were a ton of printed late notices in the box- He tried to smooth things over, he was very polite- I advised him that I normally renew every 3 months - the pink haired female stood in silence the entire time - it was not until I went back to my car that I spoke with my daughter again and asked if “he - referring to the black gentleman with braided hair was rude to her and I explained that they cannot do that- referring to discussing my bill with her- and it was then that she said “she said it, not the guy ” referring to the pink haired lady/employee .
Keep in mind, the entire time that I was speaking with the gentleman- the worker with the pink hair, who I know to be Tiffany - never said a word- even after her customer left- the appropriate thing for her to do was to come over and acknowledge that it was her who interacted with my daughter and to apologize from there…but she stood there allowing her coworker to cover for her, when she could have easily de escalated the situation by being honest and apologizing. If she is this unprofessional with a payment that is not even a week late, the question begs, what else has she done and what will she do?
My most recent bill for August just came due on yesterday and I just received an email stating my box is “past due” and to come in and get my mail and see a representative to renew.
There is not a way to make payments online and because I am not always in the area due to my work schedule, I have to wait until I’m back in the area or if the payment comes due in between pay checks, I have to wait until my pay day. This has been a very disappointing experience, but as a consumer, I am well aware of my rights and I am well aware that by divulging my personal information regarding my bill to any other person is against the law.
