Feels like a total scam!
So I asked the Hilton Hotel if I’m allowed to order things the hotel and they say yes, the items will be dropped off at the UPS Store for you collect. I knew of the stores existence because I saw on the hotel map leaflet some vouchers for hotel guests for discounts to send things back home. So sounds simple right? Well I order 3 of the same item from Amazon to be delivered and go to pick them up and they say there’s a $15 handling fee - like oh this is a surprise why hasn’t the hotel mentioned it, why is there no signage around the store or warnings before you order. Considering there’s vouchers on the hotel map why isn’t there a note to say collection fees apply if you order to the hotel?
But, I think okay it’s my fault, they go to grab the parcels and Amazon decided to split my 1 order of 3 items into 3 parcels, all delivered at the same time, same day, but in 3 separate packets for some random reason. The packets were tiny too? No more than 600g between all 3. Anyway that’s $45 they say. $45?! for 3 items?! that cost less than $20 combined?! and all because Amazon decided to split the parcel themselves and now I’m punished and have to pay for it? Did they sympathise or care or at least try to waiver and offer me a discount? No of course not it’s just flat rate, rules and rules, or don’t collect and loose the items.
I paid the $45 and obviously was fuming but thought I’d try to contact UPS Store customer support to just explain how it looks and feels to me, and how they must be able to do more to work with the hotel they operate in to make it clear to customers the cost of collection, and maybe even incorporate it as $15 per kg instead rather than per item and you get screwed for no fault of your own ordering. They completely blanked my requests despite receipt of confirmations of my customer support reference. Phone lines no answer. Absolutely scam. DO NOT USE!
The only positive giving them 1 measly star is that when leaving I asked the hotel if they had scales to weigh my bags, and they directed me to the store. I thought “oh god here we go another charge for this service I’m sure” but actually they were happy to let me weight my bags for free? So use of of their equipment for this, absolutely free, but for them to open a cupboard and hand me a little packet is $15…make it make sense! Have some humanity! Have some independent rationale thinking and customer service!
