  If you are shipping luggage to Europe, find a company that specializes in this service. While the customer service agent was helpful, he did not advise me of any documents I would need for Portugal customs. Instead, he simply told me to put “used clothes” on the waybill with an estimated value. As a result, our experience with DHL in Portugal was a nightmare, and we got our clothes for my daughter’s wedding 90 minutes before the rehearsal dinner—and were charged over $380 Euros. DHL in Portugal first had me fill in a poorly-worded template twice, then ultimately made me list everything in suitcase with its value—4-year old socks?? Insane. It cost us over $600 to ship our clothes in one suitcase, pand, after hysterical tears from me, we got the suitcase barely in time. If you plan to send your luggage ahead on your trip, use a baggage service that knows the customs procedures in your destination.
