I placed an online order for pickup at 9:20 PM. When I arrived, there was only one employee working. There were around eight online orders lined up across the counter waiting to be made, and new orders were constantly coming in. It was obvious this employee was doing everything he could, and I genuinely felt bad for him.
Unfortunately, while watching my order being prepared, I saw his arms, shirt, and other surfaces repeatedly come into contact with my food. He was also going back and forth between handling the cash register and immediately touching my sandwich toppings without changing gloves. I understand he was overwhelmed, but it left me uncomfortable with the food safety practices.
When I got home, I ended up throwing both of my subs in the trash because I no longer felt comfortable eating them.
The employee told me that management refuses to schedule at least two employees because they don’t want to reduce their bonuses and instead monitor the cameras from home. Whether or not that’s accurate, this location was clearly understaffed to the point that food quality and sanitation suffered.
I will not be returning to this Subway location. I would also like a full refund for the sandwiches I had to throw away. No store should ever operate with only one employee responsible for taking orders, handling the register, and preparing food during a busy rush. Management should be ashamed of allowing the store to operate this way.
