Whispering Barrels

This is now the third time I have experienced serious delivery issues with DHL.
Most recently, I was expecting an international shipment from Tokyo that required a signature. I intentionally did not authorize a signature release because of prior delivery problems.
According to DHL’s notification, a delivery attempt was made and I was “not home.” However, our security cameras show the driver arrived at the entrance of our gated property, turned around, and left without making any meaningful attempt to complete the delivery. The driver did not use the gate call system, did not contact us, and did not attempt to gain access to the property.
Immediately after receiving the notification, I contacted DHL customer service. Despite the driver having only recently left the area, no effort was made to contact local dispatch or the driver to resolve the situation. A package that successfully traveled from Tokyo to Florida ultimately failed to reach its destination because the final delivery step was not completed.
What is most frustrating is that this was entirely preventable. Our gate system is routinely used by delivery companies, service providers, guests, and contractors without issue. Had the driver simply attempted to use the call box or contact the recipient, the delivery could have been completed.
I understand that mistakes happen. What concerns me is the apparent lack of accountability, the inaccurate representation that delivery was attempted, and the inability of customer service to intervene when the issue was reported immediately.
I am posting this review so other customers understand the experience I encountered. DHL management should review this matter, investigate the driver’s conduct, and ensure that delivery attempts are actually attempted before customers are marked as unavailable.
Very disappointing experience.
