The Subway located inside the Walmart at 4250 Phillips Highway has great potential; however, there are several areas where improvement is needed.
Customer Service:
Ms. Kayla and another female employee (my apologies for not recalling her name) consistently provide good customer service. Despite appearing understaffed and under stress, they make a genuine effort to assist every customer, including those who may be challenging. Their professionalism does not go unnoticed.
Unfortunately, not all staff demonstrate the same level of commitment. Some employees do not tend to the front counter, remain seated while stating they are on break, and fail to greet customers. Greeting customers is essential, and the lack of it, along with negative facial expressions and body language, gives the impression of low morale and poor employee engagement.
Cleanliness:
Cleanliness is imperative in a food service environment. While the location is generally clean, this appears to depend on which employees are working. Cleanliness should be consistent at all times—not only during certain shifts. This inconsistency suggests that some employees are thorough while others are not. Subway may benefit from assigning a designated housekeeping or sanitation-focused role to ensure cleanliness standards are consistently met and to prevent potential violations.
Food Quality and Hygiene:
The sandwiches are usually well-prepared; however, there was one instance where the quality was concerning. Because of this, I only feel comfortable ordering when Ms. Kayla is working. She consistently practices proper hand hygiene and uses gloves appropriately. No offense to other staff members, but food safety is critical, and I hope all employees follow the same standards she demonstrates.
Additionally, employees should avoid rushing food preparation, as this often leads to mistakes. This is especially important for online and delivery orders. As a DoorDash driver in the area, I have observed that delivery drivers are often blamed when orders are incorrect or delayed. To improve accuracy and efficiency, I recommend assigning one or two employees specifically to handle online and delivery orders during busy periods.
Overall, based on my experience, Subway is a good location despite the areas that need improvement. I respectfully encourage management to consider retraining employees who are falling short and recognizing or promoting those who consistently uphold Subway’s mission and vision. With teamwork, accountability, and improved morale, this location has the ability to turn negative reviews into positive ones and create a better environment for both employees and customers.
