I stopped at this Advance Auto Parts location today to purchase windshield washer fluid. When I walked in, I saw an employee named Danny assisting an older woman by installing the battery she had just purchased. He was providing exactly the kind of customer service I would expect from an auto parts store, professional, patient, and helpful.
While Danny was outside helping that customer, the store was completely empty with no one in sight. I yelled to see if anyone would help me, the younger employee, who appeared to be the manager, and asked if he could ring up my purchase. He simply said, "No. You'll have to wait for the other guy." He offered no explanation and made no attempt to assist me or acknowledge that I had been waiting.
Although I considered leaving, I had been driving with an empty windshield washer fluid reservoir for over a week and needed the product, so I waited. When Danny returned, he immediately provided outstanding customer service, efficiently helping me and the other customers in the store. He deserves recognition for his professionalism, and I will be submitting a separate positive review for him.
What made this experience especially frustrating was that while Danny was ringing up my purchase, the younger employee walked behind the register, used the register himself, and continued talking on the phone. Any assumption that he couldn't operate the register disappeared the moment I watched him use it right in front of me.
This wasn't about being busy, it was about choosing not to help a waiting customer. The disregard for customers' time and the lack of basic customer service displayed by this employee were unacceptable. I hope Advance Auto Parts addresses this issue because employees like Danny deserve to work alongside team members who share the same commitment to serving customers.
