After being a loyal customer with no issues for many years, I had to leave this agency. I moved to NY a few years ago and felt no need to change agencies. Well, I learned the hard way that apparently this office does not know the differences between NY and CT laws.
This started when I requested to paused coverage on one of my vehicles. I explained that I was waiting for the title to sell the car, and in the meantime the car was just going to sit in a driveway. Well, somehow, coverage was cancelled -- which is ILLEGAL in NY (not that I knew this at the time but I do now).
When I did the paperwork to get my title, it was flagged with NY that I had a car with no insurance coverage.... what?!
I got my first scary letter from the DMV, saying that my plates would have to be surrendered. I called your office immediately and was under the impression that they were fixing the issue, as they said my insurance was never canceled and I always had liability. At this point forward, different employees gave me different stories. (I only called the Norwalk office, never the 1800 number.) The coverage was fully shut off, which is incredibly irresponsible of Allstate, as this is illegal in New York. Worst of all, there was no sense of urgency to expedite this massive problem. I was facing a $500+ fine from the DMV and I was not legally able to drive my car!
I am absolutely shocked by this Allstate agent’s irresponsibility. There is a reason why I pay the high price of Allstate for my coverage -- it's for your reputation as an upstanding company. But the worst part was the lack of accountability. Even when I reached out to Najmul directly -- who did finally explain clearly what was happening -- there was little apology or ownership. Even once the issue was finally corrected, I did not get a follow-up from the agency, perhaps to give me a discount or SOMETHING for my trouble. (I spent hours between the NY State DMV and this agency.) I have taken my business elsewhere.
