I went to a FedEx outlet on Post Road in Fairfield, Conn., to try to complete a routine chore: send a document to a state office for certification, with a self-addressed and prepaid envelope for the return of the certified document. This required me to have a FedEx account, which I did already have. Nevertheless, the process was byzantine and ultimately fruitless, when FedEx's system rejected both of my credit cards, which were both perfectly valid and had never been rejected before or since. Staff at that FedEx office were entirely unhelpful, and there was no option for me to pay cash. So I left and went to the post office--where I saved $40. Yes, the FedEx cost for this transaction was going to be more than $60. The PO charge for the exact same service was $24.
Unless you are a business, FedEx is ridiculous and overpriced and unhelpful. A bureaucracy even worse than the USPS.
