A visit to Walmart would not be complete without dropping by Subway for a bite of nostalgia and a grim dose of late stage capitalist reality.
I will start with the atmosphere: from the guy yelling into his phone in Spanish to the few senior citizens biding their time to the random "housing challenged" individuals striding up to the fountain drink machine with any variety of drinking receptical, the Walmart Subway is a microcosm of contemporary American struggle. Subway is also one of the few places to sit down in this mega consumer soul-sucking dystopia. As one of the few, remaining "third spaces", it is prime real estate for people watching - an easy 4 out of 5 stars.
Moving on to the "Service Quality"; On both occasions that I visited this Subway branch in the past 5 months, the service has been impeccable. My sandwich order was taken quickly, the sandwich assembled efficiently and rung up correctly. The sandwich makers are friendly and polite. The degree of sandwich making professionalism is high here - 5 stars out of 5!
The Food Quality and Value For Money; In these inflationary times, it's difficult to get a fast food meal for under $10 bucks. On both of my visits, my sandwich meal fell in the $9.00 to $10.00 range. On my first visit, I tried the "Steak Philly Cheesesteak" and on my most recent trip, I opted for the 6" Deli Fave "B.L.T." sandwich for $5.99 and adding $4 bucks I got a small fountain drink and a bag of chips.
While sitting there and eating my lunch, I could enjoy viewing life's rich pageant of Walmart denizens coming and going. All in all, I enjoyed my meal at Subway. Perhaps at some point this place is where the plans for the revolution to overthrow the capitalist oligarchs will be hatched. Until then, I bide my time and sharpen my knives and forks in great anticipation to eat the rich.
