I have been shipping with FedEx for approximately eight years, and until today I have consistently had excellent experiences with FedEx employees. I have never encountered an employee who made the shipping process so unnecessarily difficult.
I regularly ship the same type of item using a FedEx envelope and have done so without issue at multiple FedEx locations over the years. Today, however, an employee whose name starts with the letter "N" refused to process my shipment, stating that the envelope was intended only for documents. I explained that I have been shipping this same item in the same type of envelope for years without any problems.
She also expressed concern that the envelope could open during transit. I let her know that I was more than willing to securely tape the envelope to address that concern. She then suggested using a small box, but the item would not fit inside it. Her other recommendation was a padded overnight envelope, which would have increased my shipping cost by approximately $20.
Rather than paying the additional cost, I left and drove to another FedEx location. There, my package was accepted without issue, and I received the level of service I have come to expect from FedEx. The employee at that location did not question the contents of my package or create unnecessary obstacles.
Another interaction that made me uncomfortable occurred during the ID verification process. After scanning my ID, the employee asked me to turn it over so she could examine the front. In the eight years I have been shipping with FedEx, employees have always simply scanned my ID and completed the transaction. This extra scrutiny felt unusual and made me uncomfortable.
I fully understand the importance of following FedEx policies and appreciate employees who do so consistently. However, based on my experience over the past eight years, today's interaction was inconsistent with the service I have received at other FedEx locations. I hope that policies are applied consistently to all customers so that no one else has a similar experience.
Overall, this interaction left me feeling uncomfortable and inconvenienced, as I had to drive to another FedEx location simply to ship a package that another FedEx employee accepted without hesitation.
