I brought in a small package as a return. The employee told me it needed to be taped. I didn't have any tape with me. So I asked if I could use their tape, and the employee said, it costs $3 for a piece of tape. There was a tape gun sitting on the table next to my small package, and they still refused to tape it for me. To me, this is very poor customer service. And I will never use this store again. I suggest you all do the same.

Came in today to drop off 3 return packages for Amazon. Walked in, there were 2 other customers, busy packaging/prepping their packages. So I walked up to the counter and laid my 3 small boxes on the counter. Noticed the UPS employee working on the computer to my left, with some other person seated near him. I assume he was in the middle of something so I just stood at the counter and waited. A few minutes later, one of the customers that was already inside the store when I came in asked him a question as he laid his 2 big boxes on the counter. So I thought the employee was probalby in the middle of helping the customer and that's why he hasn't acknowledged me yet. So after laying down the 2 packages, the customer leaves the store. It's been 5 minutes now, still standing at the counter, wondering what's going on. Finally decided to speak up and asked cordially, "are you able to help and scan these returns". His response was I would have to wait 15 mins or I can scan them myself with the machine scanner by the wall. This self-serve gig must be new as I do not think it was here a few weeks ago. So thought to myself, it would have been nice if he had told me before instead of waiting for me to ask. So since the time I walked in, never acknowledged the customer, never said a word. Not even a hello, or at least inform the customer of the scanner. I would think you almost have to go out of your way to not say something and completely ignore the customer because saying hello is such a naturally thing to do. I had a bad experience here a few months ago, when the worker typed in the address to create the label on an e-Bay return, and turns out mistyped 1 number, causing the package to be lost and delivered somewhere else. I found out about this when i spoke directly to the seller inquiring about the refund. Needless to say, I never got the refund and was out $50 due to lost package. That was a careless mistake that happened and was unfortunate at the time.
But today was not a mistake - it's just plain poor customer service. I manage multi business units as a regional operations director and customer service and their experience is always at the forefront in our minds. When it comes to something like the UPS store, the customer-facing employees are the face of the company and negative or poor customer experience stays with you a long time. Today could have been a 1-off, don't know and can't assume anything. But I would say the employee would definitely benefit from a lot more training.

Regrettably, the service at this particular UPS store has been consistently unhelpful. They require a $5 fee simply to scan a label barcode for reprinting. My multiple visits have been met with impolite staff, and attempts to seek assistance or information have yielded very little support. While I acknowledge that services often come with a cost, I would hope for a more courteous interaction, especially when a fee is involved for a small print of a prepaid UPS label.
