It certainly felt as though the sales staff had already put a value on each customer based on appearance — and, unfortunately, possibly even race — before deciding how much attention they deserved. Your shopping experience seems to depend rather heavily on the value they place on you.
We were repeatedly ignored while customers who arrived later were immediately served. When we complained, the store manager’s dismissive attitude was particularly unpleasant, and we were simply told that we should have approached the sales staff ourselves.
We then went to their Bond Street store and received excellent service, completely different from this experience, and ended up making a much more substantial purchase than we had intended.
Quite an interesting definition of “luxury service”. As for the store manager, his lack of leadership and professionalism was frankly disappointing. He simply does not seem to reflect the values or standards of Tiffany. Perhaps they should consider a change in management.

Really disappointing experience at the Tiffany section in Selfridges.
I was waiting for an appointment elsewhere for a luxury jeweler in the store and sat quietly on one of the many available high chairs in the Tiffany area. The space was almost completely empty, there were plenty of other seats available, and I was tucked away in a corner, so I was not taking space from any customer or disrupting the area in any way.
Despite this, security approached me multiple times and the sales associates made it very clear that I was not welcome to remain there, even after I explained that I was simply waiting for another appointment in Selfridges.
What was most uncomfortable was how unnecessary and conspicuous the whole thing felt. If the seating is strictly reserved for customers actively being served by Tiffany, that could have been explained once, politely and discreetly. Instead, I was repeatedly made to feel as though I did not belong there. Also, some humanity and understanding could have been applied.
As someone who has spent a significant amount with Tiffany over the years and was actually wearing several Tiffany pieces at the time, the treatment was especially jarring, although no customer should have to prove their spending history or appearance in order to be treated with basic courtesy.
For a luxury brand, this was a surprisingly ungracious and embarrassing experience. Frankly, a little less self-importance and a little more courtesy would go a long way.
Extremely disappointing service at Tiffany & Co. in Selfridges, and nowhere near the standard I would expect from a luxury brand.
I visited with a pair of Tiffany silver earrings and was told very abruptly that they do not serve customers without an appointment on weekends. What made this particularly frustrating is that I could not find this policy stated anywhere online, and these same earrings had originally been purchased on a Saturday without an appointment.
The way this was explained to me was also unnecessarily patronising and dismissive. The staff member I dealt with was a tall, slim British woman, approximately 5’7–5’8, with light brown hair. I approached her twice for help, and both times, while I was clearly still in need of assistance, she turned her back to me and disengaged from the conversation.
She also proceeded to explain to me, in a patronising manner, that silver tarnishes, as though I was unaware of one of the most basic characteristics of silver jewellery. That was not the reason for my visit and did nothing to address what I was actually asking for help with.
What I found most disappointing was that there appeared to be staff available, yet there was no attempt to find another solution, offer an alternative time, properly explain the supposed appointment policy, or make any effort to retain me as a customer. They were simply comfortable letting me leave.
If Tiffany has a strict weekend appointment-only policy, it should be clearly communicated online and explained professionally and courteously in store. Being unable to accommodate someone is one thing; making them feel dismissed, talked down to and unwelcome is another.
For a luxury brand that trades heavily on service and customer experience, this was exceptionally poor. I have purchased from Tiffany before, but this experience at the Selfridges counter has seriously changed my impression of the brand.
Had to buy a new necklace due to the broken of my old one, thanks to Simone and Walid patiently helping me to decide which one to get, had a really interesting conversation and was an amazing purchasing experience :)
