  I travel extensively for work and regularly stay at hotels for youth sports, and this was, by far, the absolute worst hotel experience I have ever had. The evening manager set the tone for our entire stay—he was rude, hostile, confrontational, and utterly unhelpful. When we entered our room, we were immediately hit with a noxious odor that smelled overwhelmingly like rotting fish and garbage. It was nearly unbearable. I immediately brought this issue to the evening manager's attention. He assured me the room would be thoroughly cleaned and that the smell would be gone. When we returned the next day, nothing had changed. The foul odor was just as strong. When I asked to be moved, the manager advised the hotel was fully booked and refused to offer any meaningful solution or accommodation. We felt entirely unwelcome at this hotel. Beyond the intolerable smell, the cleanliness of the room was substandard at best. The carpet had clearly not been vacuumed, and dirty dishes from room service were left in the room and were never removed throughout our stay. I will never stay at the Best Western Hotel St. Mamas again, and I strongly advise anyone traveling to this area—whether for business or youth sports—to look elsewhere for accommodations.

  Our experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing, largely due to the evening front desk attendant. As a coach travelling with a hockey team of 9- and 10-year-old boys, I expected a welcoming and professional environment. Unfortunately, the attendant's attitude made our entire team feel like we were an inconvenience rather than paying guests. We booked and paid for the conference room from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, yet the attendant refused to open it until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Later that evening, he approached our team's parents in the breakfast area and asked for me by name regarding a group of adults consuming alcohol. He immediately assumed they were associated with our team and spoke to me in a rude, condescending manner. Once I explained they were not part of our group, he quickly apologized and dealt with them. Interestingly, his attitude only changed after I told him I would be filing a complaint. He also told one of our parents that he would be closing the pool to our team at 8:00 p.m., despite the pool's posted closing time of 10:00 p.m. When I confronted him about this, he retracted his comments. Throughout the weekend, his behaviour was consistently confrontational, unprofessional, and lacking basic customer service skills. The boys were left feeling like they had to walk on eggshells rather than enjoy their hockey weekend. I will give credit where it is due: the other staff members, including the breakfast and housekeeping teams, were fantastic. Unfortunately, their excellent service could not make up for the experience we had with the evening front desk attendant. I would not recommend this hotel to hockey teams or other sports groups. We paid for our accommodations and facilities and expected to be treated with basic courtesy and respect. Instead, one staff member made the entire stay unnecessarily stressful and unpleasant. Management needs to address this type of behaviour, as it reflects poorly on the hotel as a whole.

  I honestly love this location. From the time you walk in you receive a very friendly greeting, and sometimes the quick wit of Hesham... From the common spaces to the rooms it is always well maintained, clean and well organized. Keep up the great work.

  Our last annual or semi-annual trip to Chemainus for their great theatre because the Best Western has truly awful and negligent service. My frail and elderly parents booked their room months in advance especially with an early check-in which was coldly refused upon arrival so they were forced to wait in the parking lot for 90 minutes. Never again.
