I really hoped to not have to write this. We had a trip booked here for a nice little trip away before school starts up. I paid the extra fee for cancelation safety. Our family dog passed away suddenly and we had to cancel/ postpone our trip. We had until 4pm the day before to cancel. We cancelled well before that cut off time. Check our account and they charged us for the entire stay HOURS before the cancelation policy time. Spoke to attendant at front desk, she let me know that "they do this to ensure they dont lose money on trips cancelled" I asked why would that have been done before the cut off time and not after as that would make sense. She once again assured me "this is just what they do" the entire amount of the stay was charged to our card and would be released 3-5 business days later. Here we are well over a week later and they have still not refunded us that large amount of money. I spoke further to head office and while she assured me this is not what should have been done, they cannot do anything about it. We were going to rebook once we had our dog situation settled but unfortunately we will be taking our booking else where. Just want others to be aware of how this played out and be very cautious when booking. It would have made it a little easier to understand if they had handled this with kindness and not a "oh well. Youll have to just wait" demeanor. At this rate we highly doubt we will see the refund and unfortunately have to take this even further. Media has already been contacted but I said we would wait a week before pulling the trigger.

My kids had so much fun staying here! We requested to have our room cleaned every day, and each time we came back, our room was exceptionally clean and well taken care of. We really appreciated the great housekeeping service. The hotel is conveniently located near plenty of activities, attractions, and restaurants, which made it easy for us to find places to eat and things to do. The hotel also has its own lounge and bar, which is a nice option if you prefer to stay in. Since we had our car, getting around was easy for us, especially because we planned our outings during less busy traffic times. We didn’t really explore the area around the hotel on foot, so I can’t say much about what’s within walking distance. With our kids in tow, we preferred to drive to nearby places instead. One thing to keep in mind for families is that the hotel is close to the main road, so if you have young kids, it’s a good idea to be extra watchful when outside. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The kids had a great time, the room was always exceptionally clean, and the location worked really well for us. We would absolutely stay here again and definitely recommend it to other families! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My family stayed a night this summer for the first time. My first negative experience was checking in and being asked to book a time slot for the waterslides. When we booked the hotel we were not told they have these rules in place that it gets so busy they only allow guests in for 1 hour time slots. We booked this hotel just for the slides so that was disappointing. Our family had fun once we were in the water but it was so cold and jam packed. Our room was clean however we booked the sofa bed and weren't provided bedding. We tried calling for bedding 3 times and no bedding came. When we checked out , they only offered a small discount on a future stay. Overall, it wasn't terrible or great!

Extremely disappointing experience with both this hotel and its management. I booked a one-night stay at the Best Western Plus Port O’Call Hotel after calling the direct phone number listed for the hotel. I was quoted a total of approximately $277, which I confirmed multiple times. I was never told that I was booking through a third party, that the transaction would be processed in the U.S., or that the price was in USD. I was charged US$277.88, which came to approximately $392 CAD which is more than $100 above what I believed I had agreed to pay. When I contacted the hotel, I was initially told the booking had gone through Priceline. Later, management said it appeared to have been Agoda. My confirmation email, however, came from HotelValues.com. Even the hotel couldn't provide a consistent explanation of who I had actually booked through. More concerning, I later learned that when I initially called the hotel's local Calgary number, my call had been automatically rerouted to a U.S.-based call centre in Arizona because, according to the hotel, their front desk was busy and unable to answer. The hotel explained that when reception cannot pick up within a certain amount of time, their system redirects the call to their central reservations/call centre. However, there was no clear disclosure that I was being transferred outside the hotel or that I was no longer speaking directly with the Calgary property. The call gave every impression that I was dealing directly with the hotel. I was simply trying to book a room using the same process I had successfully used with Best Western before, so I had no reason to believe I was being connected to a U.S.-based third party or that I would ultimately be charged in U.S. dollars. What really made this a 1-star experience was how the issue was handled afterward. The hotel acknowledged that situations like this were "becoming increasingly common," yet I was repeatedly told to contact the third party myself. I spent days trying to reach Priceline/HotelValues and could not get anyone to locate my reservation. The hotel initially said they would escalate the matter to the appropriate manager, but no one ever followed up. I contacted the hotel again in August 2026, asking for an update and offering a reasonable goodwill resolution of a free nights stay. After waiting another week for a response, I was finally told by the General Manager: "We will not be providing compensation as the issue was the result of my oversight in the booking process." That response is incredibly disappointing. I did not intentionally book through a third party. I live in Edmonton and called what I thought was the hotel’s direct Calgary phone number. I was given a price of approximately $277 without ever being told it was in USD. As someone booking a hotel in Calgary from Edmonton, I have absolutely no idea why I would have expected to be charged in U.S. dollars. I then spent an enormous amount of time trying to resolve a problem I never knowingly created. Regardless of which third party ultimately processed the payment, the hotel and its management had an opportunity to acknowledge the customer experience and make a reasonable goodwill gesture. Instead, I was repeatedly passed from one company to another and ultimately blamed for the situation. I was previously a loyal Best Western customer and had even given this hotel a 5-star review after a previous stay. Unfortunately, this experience completely changed my opinion. The room itself may have been fine, but customer service and accountability matter. I would strongly recommend being extremely careful when booking this hotel by phone and confirming exactly who you are booking with, what currency you are being charged in, and who will appear on your credit card statement.

Me and my family were excited to stay here. We were unsure after booking if we had a third bed, so we called ahead to make sure and nobody answered on several different days, finally left a message and no one returned the call. While staying here the room was great (third bed, microwave and fridge) - only disappointment was tiny little bottles of toiletries while the Sheraton cavalier has big nice bottles in the shower. A big disappointment staying here is you have to book pool times in 1 hour time slots. It makes your trip feel more rushed around food. Our first night was great in the pool though, we got to extend our time for 2 hours in the pool and we all had fun. However after no one would pick up the phone to bring us extra towels. We called 3 times and there was only 5 towels for a room with 6 people which doesn’t make sense. The next night was the WORST! We got our pool time booked from 9-10pm. After being in the toddler pool with my toddlers for only about 10 minutes I knew something was wrong. My 5 and 3 year olds started scratching profusely. There skin started getting red and blistering and looked like chemical burns. We reported it to the staff, and went to bath them. After checking their skin after a bath, their skin didn’t look good and I was very worried. We spoke to the manager. He couldn’t tell us what was wrong with the pool. My husband ending up speaking to the pool maintenance man prior to that and he said the ph was off a “little bit.” I spend the night worried about the kids as their rash was spreading and I was exhausted. Luckily in the morning it seemed like it was calming down. We noticed while checking out there was caution tape around the toddler pool (you can see the pool through a window in the main lobby). We still haven’t received feedback about their “investigation.” If you have children especially with sensitive skin I would highly NOT recommend staying here. They didn’t offer to refund part of our bill for our troubles so I know that they don’t take customer service seriously. Never staying here again!
