The problems started as soon as I entereed the building. Trying to find reception. After a couple of minutes I saw a fairly small sign on the wall saying reception is on the first floor. I decided to take the stairs, after going up 3 flights, around some corners, wondering if I'm going the right way, I found the reception desk.
I tried to check in at the desk, the staff tried to check me in but apparently the system was having issues and said I'd have to use the automated check in machines. After a hard day at work, I just wanted to get to my room. I'm no technophobe but I still needed the staffs assistance to complete check in.
In the room I was in, the right hand bedside lamp didn't work and the left one flickered so bad it was unusable. The room lighting is in urgent need of an upgrade. I couldn't even watch the TV without a reflection of a light in the screen.
The bathroom smelt so bad, like stagnant water. I wasn't sure if it was the sink or the toilet but it was not good and made me feel sick when washing my hands or brushing my teeth. If i wasn't so tired, I would have complained and tried to get a different room.
The shower curtain seemed far too short and didn't use all the shower hooks on the the track. I had to keep checking I wasn't spraying the bathroom floor with water whilst in the shower.
The breakfast was not great. all the 'hot' items were luke warm at best. This suprised me as I'd been asked what time I was going to be at breakfast. When getting a cup ot tea, there was not milk anywhere near the hot water / coffee machines, I managed to find some at the fresh fruit / cereal counter, there was no indication if this milk was skimmed, semi or full fat.
I have stayed ay many Premier Inns and the breakfast here was the worst I can remember, the fried eggs had solid yolks, the bacon was like cardboard, the hash browns were so dry and overcooked. Everything was just not nice. I wish I had saved my money and gong to Greggs round the corner......
Checking out wasn't as expected either, after getting the lift down to the ground floor, I then had to go back to the first floor for a key drop.
All in all, I don't think I would stay here again, I'd definitely try to find somewhere else locally. It feels like the hotel chain know they are the only one in the area and are just out to make money from a captive market.
