Adding this to the review I originally gave them below but as the customer service has been SHOCKING. Even after I was directed to contact customer services given what I'd stated. In the end I did ask for a refund given the stay we had but I was refused, my concerns were not taken seriously at all, and from what I can see in the reviews I'm far from the only one to have had such a poor experience.
To be clear about the level of heat and lack of ventilation (not just AC but terrible airflow, resulting in temperatures of 31 degrees at 2am and a bathroom even hotter while it was MUCH cooler outside) we were told by staff that some of the cleaners working over the weekend we stayed had taken time off sick due to the heat experienced while cleaning the rooms. This hotel is literally harming its staff and yet does nothing to improve the ventilation or cooling, (opening external doors for periods to refresh and cool the air, bringing in more fans, supplying enough ice or enough cold water to actually help guests maintain a reasonable temperature) and keeps repeating the same rubbish about "we told you it didn't have air conditioning." What they didn't do when THEIR OWN STAFF WERE GOING OFF SICK DUE TO THE HEAT was warn any of the guests, take any reasonable measures beyond supplying one poorly located, unmovable fan, offer an alternative site, or do much of anything at all. I had to repeatedly tell them that this was about more than the air conditioning but the attitude was the same over and over. Sorry you feel that way, we told you there's no air conditioning.
This hotel is providing a dangerous working environment to its own staff and yet considered that was a FINE environment for paying guests to stay in. Their attitude to their staff and customers absolutely stinks. Yes, we reported it. Yes we asked for more fans (there were none - they prioritised rooms with children which is fair enough but they clearly were aware of the severity of the problem). We asked for ice and were given very little, and were told they needed to save it for breakfast. They failed to reference this degree of problem in their responses to my complaint, failed to escalate it when I told them to, and when they eventually did they still failed to address the severity of the problem, repeated the "no AC, sorry you feel that way" mantra, and closed the case. As I'm an employer and also involved in the building trade I do know what I'm talking about but they seem to think I'll just go away when they're behaving incredibly irresponsibly, fobbing people off, and keeping their money.
We couldn't stay elsewhere. We tried, but as they had our money already I couldn't afford to go to a different hotel and was hardly going to drive all the way back to Cornwall from Croydon at 2am. At such short notice the prices were sky high, and rooms were few and far between.
As I have already told them I WILL be taking this to trading standards and I sincerely hope the staff who were taken ill take legal action against them. Premier Inn has a duty of care to staff and guests and they are utterly failing in that duty. Given the number of other basically identical complaints on Trip Advisor it's obvious they don't care, are hiding behind the "we don't have air conditioning" line in the ad, and for a company offering a guarantee of a good night with them that's extremely poor.
