The Premier Inn Thetford offers a wide range of rooms and has an excellent restaurant attached, making it a great place to stay if you're visiting the local area. The hotel itself is well maintained. There were a few small patches that appeared to have been missed during cleaning, but I imagine that's simply down to staffing levels and scheduling pressures rather than a reflection on the team.
We stayed here during the recent record-breaking heatwave, and unfortunately, due to a communication error, our room upgrade was missed. As a result, we spent our first night in a standard room before requesting an upgrade the following day.
If you're planning to stay at this hotel, my advice would be to book one of the Premier Plus rooms if they're available. During our first night, the room was 31.5°C when we arrived. Because the windows only opened a small amount, the insulation retained the heat, and ventilation was poor, the room never cooled down. The only sleep we managed was through sheer exhaustion, and it certainly wasn't comfortable or restful.
Where our stay completely turned around was thanks to Megan on reception. Without hesitation, she worked to secure us a room upgrade as quickly as possible. She was attentive, kind, understanding, and genuinely cared about resolving the situation. Given the staffing pressures she appeared to be working under, she handled everything professionally and remained friendly throughout. Premier Inn should recognise Megan for her hard work, as she's a real asset to the hotel.
Once we moved into a Premier Plus room, the difference was night and day. It genuinely transformed our stay and made it far more comfortable during such extreme weather.
Overall, this is a good hotel with an excellent restaurant and Great staff. However, with the UK's increasingly hot summers, I do feel all rooms should ideally have air conditioning, or at the very least a more effective way of ventilating the rooms. Temperatures of over 31°C indoors simply aren't conducive to a comfortable night's sleep.
