reception fine & friendly, rooom standard & comfortable. Food nice & well presented, female serving behind the bar very pleasant & asked if I was eati g in my room - didnt know I could so said yes. I ordered 2 starters rather than a main and I had a drink...A different female who presented as a supervisor arrived at the bar with my 2 plates, I asked the original female for a tray which she went to retrieve to which supervisor shouted No..I asked how I was supposed to manage to go upstairs to my room, she said I'll help, I wouldve took tray back immediately - apoarently they only have 1 tray!! A tad embarrasing while on my own at the bar

You drive into a wide open unkept, rough tarmac area fronting a large lake, the Hotel sits to the right with a tidy open front. The Hotel seems a base for contractors few holiday makers.

Excellent Hotel with excellent staff. Arrived with a bike, I was offered to bring it to the room or leave it in a secure back office to avoid carrying it upstairs. Room was clean and comfortable with everything functional. Restaurant food and breakfast were okay nothing exceptional but decent. Staff were all excellent, very professional, helpful and chatty made me feel very welcome and well taken care of. Arriving by bicycle from the south there is a cycle route around the lake from Ashington and newbiggin by the sea and to the north there is also a cycle paved path which avoids having to use the busy A road (not marked on maps).

I arrived at this Premier Inn with relatively high expectations, having read a number of positive reviews online. Unfortunately, I found my stay somewhat disappointing for a number of reasons. On arrival, I immediately noticed a musty smell in the room. I’m not sure whether this was coming from the drains or had another cause, but it was noticeable throughout my stay. The room was otherwise generally clean, although the toilet flush was somewhat temperamental. One of the things I usually appreciate about staying in a hotel is returning to a refreshed room, with the bed made and the bins emptied each day. At this hotel, however, rooms are not serviced unless you specifically request it at reception each morning. While I appreciate that this may be part of the hotel’s current operating model, I personally feel it detracts from the experience of staying in a hotel. We requested that our room be serviced each morning, although I was left with the impression that we were somehow inconveniencing the staff by asking. On two of the four mornings, we received fresh towels but the bin was not emptied and the bed was left unmade. To me, these are fairly basic aspects of housekeeping and should form part of a daily room refresh. Breakfast was another area where I was disappointed. The plate warmer was not working, meaning that plates were cold and, as a result, food such as baked beans could be cold by the time you reached the table. The buffet also wasn’t being replenished quickly enough. On each of the four mornings, I found myself waiting for at least a couple of hot items to be replenished. The explanation was often that everyone had arrived at once, but this became less convincing when the same issue occurred on a Monday morning when the restaurant was relatively quiet. There was also only one coffee machine operating throughout my stay, which inevitably resulted in queues for hot drinks. Overall, I found the hotel somewhat soulless. This was not helped by the pub next door being closed and apparently now being used solely for hotel guests. The location is also quite remote, being situated on the edge of a country park, with no shops or restaurants within easy walking distance. That said, the hotel is a good base to explore Northumbria and I would consider staying again if the price were particularly competitive. However, if rates are approaching £90–£100 per night, I feel there are better options available locally that would provide a more enjoyable overall experience. In summary, this wasn’t a terrible stay, but it fell well short of what I had expected based on the reviews I had read beforehand.
