The hotel itself is exactly what you’d expect from Premier Inn: clean, comfortable enough, and offering the standard functional rooms. The staff were pleasant, and I had no complaints about the general cleanliness or condition of the hotel.
Unfortunately, my stay was completely overshadowed by the excessively high room temperature. Although the Premier Inn website does state that this hotel has no air conditioning, it does not convey just how uncomfortable the rooms become during warm weather.
A desk fan was provided, but it was wholly inadequate. Despite running continuously from my early check-in at around 12:30, it made virtually no noticeable difference to the temperature of the room, which remained stiflingly hot throughout the afternoon, evening and night. The top-hung window only opened by around 10 cm and, because the opening was at the bottom of the frame, very little hot air could escape, providing virtually no meaningful ventilation. Opening the window simply resulted in constant traffic noise and frequent emergency vehicle sirens throughout the night, making sleep even more difficult.
I tried taking a cold shower to cool down, but the shower temperature was erratic, repeatedly fluctuating from the selected cold setting to hot, making it equally ineffective.
I eventually raised the issue with reception. The staff were polite and sympathetic, but were unable to offer an alternative room or any practical solution, instead advising me to contact Guest Relations after my stay. By then, I was beginning to feel unwell from the heat and ended up sleeping in my car instead. At 23:30, the outside temperature was a very comfortable 16°C, making it far cooler than my hotel room.
Overall, while the hotel is clean and perfectly acceptable in many respects, I cannot recommend it during periods of warm weather. A comfortable night’s sleep is a basic expectation, and without effective air conditioning or an adequate alternative, this hotel simply doesn’t provide one. Consequently, this was the worst experience I’ve had at any Premier Inn.
