Very disappointing stay at Premier Inn St Albans Bricket Wood and not what I expect of a Premier Inn. I have typically found Premier Inns across the UK to be consistent and reliable on standards but this certainly didn’t meet our usual expectations. We were checked in to room 104 on 13th Aug that had at least 7 dead wasps in multiple locations across the carpet. Was this room properly checked by housekeeping? Vacuumed? I’m sure there must be knowledge of some kind of wasp infestation in that room.
After returning to reception with all our luggage to request a room move we were checked in on the ground floor. This room was better but only one bath towel provided so again had to return to reception to request another. Wasn’t the greatest start after our long journey there.
Be aware the Beefeater restaurant is not in action at present so no breakfast available here, unless you are satisfied with a ‘complimentary packet croissant and a banana’ that you can collect by reception. We ended up driving to the Premier Inn Watford North in the end just to have a hot breakfast at 6:30am. Also be aware there is no air con, a single fan provided which mind you, the front casing of the fan fell off on the 2nd day of our stay and we had to fix it back on.
The signage finding the hotel from the main road is not obvious and easy to miss depending on which direction you are travelling from.
Positives… There were two very bubbly female receptionists on the desk when we left early morning to get breakfast at Watford North Premier Inn.
Well located, comfortable Premier Inn. No air con but the helpfully had fans in the rooms. Great breakfast at the delightful Moor Mill Beefeater. What will happen when it closes?
When you look at the map, you'll see this Premier Inn doesn't look it's near anything much. That's because it's not! I arrived and departed during daylight hours, which was great, because if it were after dark, I'm not sure I'd have found it. It's down a lovely country lane, then you turn onto another country lane, drive past a residence and there it is! That said, it's a LOVELY hotel. The staff were friendly and professional, the front area was immaculately clean, as was the car park.
The room was also immaculately clean. Bathtub, complimentary soaps, 1 towel, 1 face towel. TV. Desk, Wifi - all very good. But no air conditioning! On a hot July day/night, this warranted 1 star down and should start becoming standard.
Dinner at the Beefeater - walk down an unmarked paved walkway (the receptionist was very helpful) and you'll find yourself in a car park - and try to find the front door. That said, the place was also lovely. A lovely little waterfall on the river, a big garden, very helpful staff (they were very rushed, and need more staff !), reasonable prices, good selection. The food was very tasty and there was no blasting music, so that was really nice.
If I were in the area again, I would most definitely stay here again and arrive early enough to deal with the small car park and hope it's well lit after dark!
My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and have to say the staff were awesome, particularly Kazi and Patricia. We love the location as the restaurant used to be a water mill and the workings of it are still visible inside with water running through.

We were fortunate enough to enjoy the amazing hospitality of Natalya and her Team during April of 2026. As a group visiting the Premier Inn (Bricket Wood/St Albans) for a family function, it made sense to stop over close by to the event. The Premier Inn at Bricket Wood was an obvious choice in terms of location. Our expectations were low, especially as we were only spending one night at the hotel. However, thanks to Natalya and her colleagues we enjoyed a 5 Star experience! Check in was swift and efficient, which is exactly what any traveller who has been driving all day needs. We were quickly in our rooms which were immaculately clean, well presented and very functional. After a short rest we were ready to go out and passed by Reception where Natalya wished us, a very genuine, pleasant time at our event. We requested extra towels on the way out and these were provided instantly. We arrived back quite late and then enjoyed a very peaceful night's sleep. Morning came round far too quickly and we all enjoyed the outstanding Premier Inn breakfast (separate review left for the restaurant). The time to check out came far too quickly and, once again, thanks to Natalya the process was seamless. In addition to the amazing service, this Premier Inn is in a stunningly beautiful location close to a Water Mill. In summary, as Premier Inns go, the Bricket Wood location is the best I've ever experienced. I have no doubt at all that reason behind my/our perfect visit was down to Natalya and her Team. I would recommend a stay at the Premier Inn and I know we will be back soon to enjoy the location as well as the World Class hospitality.
