  I use Premier Inn quite a bit in various locations, this one was a bit of a let down and requires a refresh. Staff were very friendly though.

  Ideal for our needs. Bed comfy, nice room, and location wise with surrounding shops a bonus. Could do with some USB A&C sockets to charge phones!

  Unhelpful staff who seem irritated when asked about the basics, e.g. our room had an empty toilet roll tube, a partial roll of toilet tissue, and only one bath towel. We were left to hunt these items down by ourselves (with regards to the towels, we ended up helping ourselves from a pile of towels left on a housekeeping trolley abandoned in a corridor). The room, although classed as accessible, is not accessible for anyone confined to a wheelchair - none of the internal doors open automatically; hence an additional person is needed to open any doors. The room was also some distance away from the hotel entrance and reception - not great in light of mobility issues. The temperature control mechanism in the room is barely working. We were sweltering in over 24 degrees inside, when the external temperature was around 14 degrees, and the window does not open in any way. The somewhat stressed receptionist informed us that no fans available for guests to borrow. The bed itself had nothing in common with the typical comfortable Premier Inn beds we've been used to. The bed sat at a ridiculously low level - making it painful to get up - and boasted a fairly hard, lumpy mattress. The room had not been cleaned properly in a good while. The yellow-white build-up between toilet pedestal and wall is vomit-inducing. The Nespresso machine and fridge door handles were speckled and dusty. Any furniture and furnishings at lower level (e.g. the bottom rungs of the vanity unit stool) had not been dusted for at least a fortnight. Leaving the room on our first morning (we were booked in for two nights), we clearly displayed the 'refresh me' sign on the external door handle. This was completely ignored by housekeeping staff - we returned after a 12-hour absence to find the bed still unmade, dirty mugs on the side, dirty towels still on the bathroom floor, the hospitality tray not having been refilled. We were grateful that we had brought our own supply of tea bags, sugar and milk, even more so as we could not use the dirty Nespresso machine (see photos) in order to make coffee. There was no instant coffee supplied at any point either. If you're happy to pay over the odds for a Premier Plus room just to find yourself doing your own cleaning and housekeeping - and ideally bringing your own towels and toilet tissue - then this is the ideal hotel for you. The only reason why we awarded a second star, rather than just the one, is because the room and bathroom themselves were spacious, and there were two reasonably comfortable arm chairs, together with a coffee table, in the room. We have stayed in a number of Premier Inn hotels, our preferred option for over 15 years. This particular hotel has changed our minds thoroughly. We will not stay in a Premier Inn hotel again if we can at all avoid it.
