Overall, the stay was positive. The hotel is well-located within Bristol, and the rooms offer good value for money—clean, comfortable, and well-suited for a short stay. However, this was significantly let down by the experience with the night reception staff and security, whose behaviour was unnecessarily rude and unprofessional.
An issue arose late in the evening when a couple of friends briefly came to assist us in bringing birthday presents down from the room. They were not intending to stay overnight, but staff refused access due to a policy restricting the number of people in a room after around 10–11pm. While the policy itself is understandable, the way it was enforced was not. Staff were abrupt, dismissive, and spoke in a condescending manner, showing no willingness to listen or apply any common sense to the situation. What should have been a straightforward, short interaction turned into an unnecessarily tense and frustrating experience.
To add to the frustration, had our friends arrived earlier in the evening—before around 9pm—this would not have been an issue at all. Yet just an hour or two later, the stance shifted to a firm and inflexible refusal, with no room for discretion or understanding. The rigid enforcement, combined with the attitude of the staff, left a particularly negative impression.
With a more professional, respectful, and accommodating approach from the overnight team, this could have been an excellent stay.
