My husband and I checked into Room 112 at Best Western Garden Villa Inn in Roseburg, Oregon, on July 7, 2026, a little after 10:00 p.m., and unfortunately our experience was extremely disappointing.
Before arriving, we called the hotel to make a reservation and spoke with the front desk employee, Shiloh (if I have her name correct). From the beginning, I found her attitude to be rude, dismissive, impatient, and unprofessional. We felt like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. We were tired from traveling and needed a room, so we continued with our reservation.
One thing I regret is not reading the Google reviews before booking. We had stayed at other Best Western locations along the Oregon Coast and always had good experiences, so we assumed this location would provide the same level of cleanliness and service. Unfortunately, that was not our experience.
When we entered Room 112, we were immediately concerned. The room was dirty and had a foul odor. The bed smelled as though the sheets had not been changed, and the bedding had what appeared to be body and pubic hair on it. We also found a pink earplug in the bed, which made us question the cleanliness of the room.
The coffee maker was damp inside and smelled bad. The bathroom had an unpleasant odor, and the toilet seat was loose and needed repair. The closet had what appeared to be some type of buildup or nest in the corner, and we observed insects crawling on a picture frame and inside the closet. Based on what we saw and photographed, we became concerned about possible pest issues.
The overall housekeeping was unacceptable. There was dust on the headboard, tables, television, and telephone. The floor felt damp and grimy, the towels folded by the sink appeared to have visible grime, and there were cobwebs in the room. I took photographs to document the condition of everything we found.
Because of the condition of the room, my husband and I stayed less than 30 minutes and did not spend the night because we did not feel comfortable or safe staying there.
We contacted the manager and asked him to inspect the room. I personally showed him the issues, including the dirty bedding, grime, dust, odors, maintenance concerns, closet condition, insects we observed, and other problems throughout the room. The evidence was directly in front of him. He made up a story saying that I claim that there was blood in the room, I never said there was blood in the room. She was only saying that, so that way it to make me look like I was a liar, and the refund won’t be given it to me. I contacted my bank with evidence.
Despite seeing our concerns, the manager told us, “I cannot give you your refund. I don’t see anything wrong with this room.” He also stated he could not refund us because he could not rent the room to someone else. I explained that we had only been there about 30 minutes and that we were leaving because of the condition of the room. I felt his response was dismissive and unprofessional.
He ultimately told us, “I’m not going to give you a refund. Go ahead and take it up with your bank.” As a paying customer bringing serious concerns to management, I found that response unacceptable.
After leaving, I read through the reviews for this property and noticed many public responses from management that appeared polite and understanding. However, my personal experience with management was very different. I did not feel heard, respected, or that my concerns were taken seriously.
This review is based on my personal experience on July 7, 2026, and I have photographs documenting the condition of the room.
Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this property. We left within 30 minutes because we did not feel comfortable staying. I strongly encourage anyone considering this hotel to read the reviews carefully and make an informed decision before booking.

Recently stayed at the best western garden villa inn and overall our stay was okay.
Pros: affordability, room layout, kitchenette in room, parking, location
Cons: cleanliness, blackout curtains, door didn’t latch fully closed, one washing machine didn’t work
We stayed in the king kitchen suite and the room was huge!! Very nice layout. Couch and bed were comfortable enough, tv was nice and had many channels to choose from (Samsung TV) and sheets were clean. The shower was also nice with good water pressure. Kitchen was fully stocked with pots/pans/plates/cups etc. Very pleased with the value of the room.
Location was great, close to a Dutch brothers and other shops. 5 min from downtown to restaurants.
The first disappoint came when we arrived shortly after 4 and our room was not ready. The front desk lady said they were still cleaning. Thankfully they finished up quickly so we were able to get into the room, but when we did, the room smelled like pee. Very strong pee smell in the bathroom. So much so we had to ask for the room to be re cleaned while we left for dinner.
When we came back, the room did smell a bit better and the bathroom seemed to have been re cleaned. However, walking around the room for a few minutes in socks left them BLACK. Full of dirt. Pretty gross
Since we stayed in late June, the sun did not set until later and the blackout curtains didn’t fully do their job.
Lastly we noticed on the second day the door didn’t fully latch!! Super scary thinking someone could have walked in at any moment.
Overall worth the price, but next time we will be willing to spend a little more for a better more comfortable stay.
