My family stayed at the Best Western Big Spring Lodge in Neosho, Missouri from June 19 through June 22, 2026.
The hotel is in need of significant updates. The furnishings showed visible staining, the carpet had multiple spots and worn areas, and the overall condition of the room did not meet the standards I typically associate with the Best Western brand. The photos I took during our stay accurately reflect the condition of the room.
As a family, we generally decline housekeeping service during our stay. We are uncomfortable having strangers enter our room, and most hotels are happy to provide fresh towels upon request without entering the room.
During this stay, I was given a trash bag with my room number written on it and instructed to bring our used towels to the front desk since we wanted replacements. I suggested leaving the towels outside the room door, which is a common practice at many hotels, but was told that was not done at this property.
Because we were leaving for the day and did not have time to perform what I considered this housekeeping task, I left the used towels in the room and departed.
When we returned that evening, it was clear that someone had entered our room despite our privacy sign being displayed. The used towels had been removed, but no fresh towels had been provided. When I asked the front desk why someone had entered the room, I was told that housekeeping had reported an unusual odor coming from our room, but later determined it was actually coming from a room across the hall. While in our room, staff removed our towels.
I understand that hotels may need to enter a room despite a privacy sign in limited situations, such as a safety concern, maintenance emergency, or a welfare check. However, in this situation, the explanation provided was confusing and unsatisfactory. The odor was ultimately determined to be from another room, yet staff still removed our towels and did not leave clean replacements. That made the entry feel less like an urgent safety concern and more like our privacy request was disregarded.
Most of the staff were generally polite, with the exception of the male front end clerk on Sunday night. However, the condition of the property and the handling of this situation left us with a poor overall impression. Unfortunately, this was not the experience we expected from a Best Western branded hotel.

Rooms were clean- staff was friendly. Breakfast situation is crowded and tragic. They were out of a lot of items even at 8am they’d only been open for an hour. Food was barely edible. No where to sit because all tables were full.

Clean rooms, well kept, and the staff is friendly. The breakfast starts at 7 kinda odd for a BW but it's better than the average BW breakfast so worth the hour. Also coffee is decent so better than the average BW but still not great. Kids loved the pool.

Our family recently stayed here after losing our home in a devastating fire, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this hotel and its staff.
Being displaced with children is incredibly stressful, but from the moment we arrived, we were treated with kindness, compassion, and respect. The front desk staff was always welcoming, housekeeping worked tirelessly to keep everything clean and comfortable, and the breakfast team started each day with warm smiles and great food.
A very special thank you goes to Carla. She truly went above and beyond for our family. During one of the hardest times of our lives, she showed us genuine care, compassion, and kindness that we will never forget. She made us feel like more than guests—she made us feel like family. Her warm heart and caring nature brought comfort to our family when we needed it most.
Because of the incredible staff here, what could have been a very difficult stay became a place of comfort, stability, and healing for our family. We will always be grateful for the kindness shown to us and will never forget the people who helped us through such a challenging chapter.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
